Chapter 7

As the two love birds were outside Chief Inspector’s office, she rolled her eyes at him while Sky was walking silently beside her. She hated the idea of Inspector pairing them, of all the people in the Drug Enforcement department why does she have to be partnered with someone like him? Yes, she is an assassin but she should never kill him because he isn’t that useless for her. The clenching of her fist and the tightening of her jaw were obvious, Sky noticed her anger towards him but he didn’t care at all.

“Walk behind me, p*****t!” she exclaimed, not too loud but enough for him to hear.

Sky was just silently and coldly staring at her back as he walked behind her. Women are unpredictable all the time. Maui wasn’t affected by him. Even if he would stare at her with a blank expression, she doesn’t care.

The soft cushion of her office chair felt like an angel embracing her exhausted body. It felt like all the stress was gone, she could finally have peace of mind just for a short time. She doesn’t want to move now and do her mission due to her “partner in crime”. She wasn’t motivated to do so. What should she do with this? Should she just forfeit her mission? As she was thinking of it, she didn’t notice that she was biting off her pen. And Sky who was beside her noticed it.

“Don’t bite that. That’s dirty,” he said and stood up. There was determination in his eyes as he read the documents Mr. Franco gave to him. “Let’s move to our new apartment now. I don’t want to waste my time,” he added with a serious cold face. He seemed like he wasn’t in a good mood, well he always is.

“Speak of the devil, all my problems came back when I glanced at him,” she mumbled to herself. Thankfully, he didn’t overhear it.

“Good luck with your mission! From what I heard, that is your punishment for punching him,” Jonathan Mayers said aloud and laughed. He sounded like he was bullying her.

Then, Sky Miller looked at Maui. “So, this was all your fault. I can’t believe I have to work with you,” he whispered and made sure that only he can hear it but he was all wrong because Maui heard it all. Sky walked out of the office followed by Maui.

“What did you just say?! Do you think this is all my fault?! Do you think this is because of my attitude?! For your motherfucking information Mr. Franco didn’t tell us that this happened because of me. Yo-“ Maui couldn’t finish her arguments because Sky sealed her mouth with his index finger. He made sure that her mouth was closed and looked deeply into her eyes. She was stiffened. She could feel the chills on her skin. And something inside her was calling for his name as the beat of her heart was fast and wild.

He moved closer to her and whispered.

“Do you know what I hate the most? It is working with a noisy person like you. Why don’t you just do your work and I’ll do mine. That would help me a lot.” After he said those words, he left Maui and headed outside the building. She was still in shock. What just happened to her? Why was her heart beating so fast?

She didn’t mind it as the fury inside her overpowered the emotion. Perhaps, she just felt that way because she was too close to him, enough for them to almost kiss.

The breeze of the wind comforted her anger. She took a deep breath and calmed herself first before walking towards him. It would have been nice if she will solve the case alone and ask him to leave, but some things are not in her control, so she must go with the flow for now.

“For me to finish this mission. I must talk to him even though it boils my blood,” she said and smiled sweetly at him.

He looked intently at her with scrutiny, wondering about the change of air around Maui. Earlier, she was an angry little one who wants to boil him alive, but now she looked like an angel smiling beautifully at him. He must not feel into her trap.

“Look, I don’t want to argue with you. Give me peace of mind.” - Sky

“What are you talking about? You’re looking at me as if I will do something heinous towards you,” Maui sarcastically said with her arms crossed. “Relax, dude.”

“We have to disguise as a couple. That’s what the chief said, right?” Sky said as he was hoping that she would stop tormenting him. That’s why he hates women, they are too loud and self-centered.

“Of course, I will do my role as your wife.” A lopsided smile was formed on her lips.

“Then that’s it. I’ll do my part as well.” – Sky.

She rolled her eyes, a sign of disparity. She would never cooperate with this man. She can solve the case alone without needing his help. In that way, she can focus more instead of being angry with him all the time.

“b***h, I would never do that. I’ll investigate the case alone.” Before she could walk away, he grabbed her wrist gently.

“Get in the car. Are you dumb or just stupid?”

“They’re just the same, stupid.”

He took a deep breath as he was trying to control his anger towards this woman.

“Fine, I’ll put down my pride. I’m the stupid one. Anyway, I want you to cooperate with me. This is for our mission to succeed because I want this to end as soon as possible. I can’t work with a woman like you. Get in the car.”

“I have my car.”

She stepped away bounding to her car.

“Let’s meet at Shenzen Apartment!” Sky shouted and she just waved her hand. She already knew where they were going, but for now, she has to take her things.

At exactly 11 in the morning, she was packing up her things, especially her diamond earrings which contained poison and clothes. Afterward, she locked the door and made sure that no one can come inside. Maui felt the hunger in her stomach as she heard it growl.

“I’m starving. I should eat first.”

She stopped by at McDonald’s drive-thru and ordered a burger and coke. Then she parked her car in the parking lot beside the road. As she was eating, her phone rang. She answered the unregistered number.

“Hello, do I know you?” She was munching the burger while talking.

“Where are you now? I’ve been waiting for you for thirty minutes in the parking lot. Come quick.

“I’m eating. Hey, that’s disrespect! Don't you dare boss me around!” She yelled aloud. The other line cut off the call. “That jerk. I am superior to him, he should not do this to me.”

She started the engine and drove it away while eating. She knew eating while driving is against the law but she doesn’t have any choice. She wants to drive faster so that she can yell at him and shut him up.

As she arrived at Shenjen's Apartment, her rage grew more because she saw him outside of his car. He was standing there, waiting for her. There was a vacant parking space beside him, so she parked her car. She opened the door and gently closed it even though she wanted to make a loud bang to let him know that she doesn’t want to end this day without a quarrel.

“You should learn to respect me. I have more authority than you,” she clenched her fists and leaned on her car. If she didn’t control her anger, she would have been punching his face again. However, Sky had already talked with her about it, and she knows that what she did was wrong. She knows she owes an apology but her pride is stronger than her conscience.

“You should learn how to respect your comrade. We are not here to argue again,” he simply said with no emotions in his eyes.

“This jerk.” The steps of her feet as she walked towards him were loud, the tic-tac noise made him lose his concentration as he was trying to analyze and hear the incessant noises of the parking lot. Without this woman, he could solve the case easily and make himself comfortable. Of all the people in the world, why does he have to be team-up with a crazy woman like her?

The endless hate of Maui can only be perished through violence but before she could do it, he warned her. “From what I’ve heard you were a team leader before, but not anymore. Precisely speaking we are both equal. You lose your title, so don’t use that against me. You’re not my superior.” He placed her index finger on his lips, silencing her.

The screams of a woman could be heard just around the parking lot under the building of Shenjen Apartment. He nodded his head at her as she ran to search for the woman, Sky followed her. They found a woman being dragged on the floor by a familiar man. Maui easily recognized him, he was the man they are looking for named Azrael.
