** In the capitol**
*Adaleena's Office*
Adaleena sat fuming at her desk in the private office she uses for personal business. Her forehead resting on her fingertips in utter frustration. Her long hair falling around her face, the ends tickling the tops of her thighs but she's too angry to care, this is not going to plan at all. Why would he go against everything we've planned? Sometimes I wish I'd gathered my nerves sooner that day on the cliff ...
The phone rings breaking the silence. Her eyes flash a bright red as she read ' Horatio' on the screen. She snatched the phone from the desk and connected the call.
"A simple task, it was a simple task! Go to the kingdoms and gather the princess'. You were not to mention the trials, you imbecile! I've been on the phone with royals all day pacifying tempers, all because of your incompetence! We need those girls, one of them has to be the one from the prophecy!", Adaleena immediately scream through the phone at Horatio.
"I'd love to listen to your angry screeching ,but I have news." Horatio Said in a bored tone.
"What news could you possibly have that would excuse your hubris?" Adaleena said incredulously.
" Were you aware that the late kings nephew William has taken a Fae as his Luna?" Horatio continued in a bored tone." And their daughter is two weeks away from her sixteenth birthday. Convenient no?"
"What?" Adaleena said taken aback.
"Yes it was a shock to me as well, considering Caroline has come to visit the capital on several occasions if I'm not mistaken?" Horatio feigned curiosity, but he knows damn well what goes on in the capitol. His position forced by the covenant he and Adaleena had.
"What happened? How did you come across this information?" Adaleena asked, growing annoyed all over again. How could she have missed one so close to her? No one knows who is responsible for the Fae disappearing, Horatio assured her of this. Why would Caroline feel the need to hide her from me?
" I had arrived per your request, obviously, but our meeting was interrupted by the arrival of the little brat Isabella. Her status has bred an entitled arrogant little Princess, so I gave her a little lesson in respect." Horatio said with an arrogant snicker." I had caught a whiff of the mothers scent before she even walked in the door. She smelt of royalty your highness, I couldn't help myself."
"What does that mean Horatio?" Adaleena asked cautiously.
"Don't worry I gave nothing of our plans away, but I will say Caroline is a rare breed indeed. I've never seen such a magnificent creature." Horatio said with what sounded like genuine admiration.
" You i***t, you have no idea what Caroline is capable of. She is the only one that can bring this entire thing crashing down, if she finds out what we're actually doing!" Adaleena was worried.
"My apologies my Queen, I assumed this would be pleasant news." she could practically hear the sneer on his face as Horatio responds on the other end.
" You forget your place Horatio! The ONLY reason you hold the position that you do, is that your specific talents have proven useful.", she screamed.
"May I remind you, the only reason you hold your position is due to my specific talents, you'd do well remember that fact, your grace." Horatio said, and hung up.
Adaleena threw the phone into the fireplace as hard as she could watching it shatter. She stood up and began to pace, She couldn't help but feel anxious at Horatio's statement. 'If only he'd have just left me to die. The good fortune I assumed his coming across me would bring, offering me my freedom from the arranged marriage. All just a way to weasel and blackmail his was into the royal court. His intentions becoming more obscure with every year that's passed. He's going to ruin everything if I can't get him in check.' She thought to herself.
A sudden knock at the door stopped her in her tracks.
"Come in Nikolay." Adaleena said as she retook her seat at the desk, trying her best to compose herself.
" I bring you new phone, your Majesty." Nikolay says in a heavy Russian accent, as he opens the door, scanning the room with his piercing blue eyes and holding a box in his hand. His bald head and high cheekbones resembling that cleaner spokesperson from America, but extremely muscular and very Russian." I ken throw Horatio in fire next time, eh, cheaper yes?'
"You know eavesdropping is not tolerated Nikolay..." she said , slightly amused he already had a phone ready. 'I truly do have the worst temper' ." .. but you do know me so well."
"Twenty years teaches you much about a poursin. Do you require anything else Madame Luna?", Nikolay asked, as he set the box in front of her on the desk He raised an eyebrow at me like he always does when he knows something is bothering me.
" I wouldn't be surprised if every single princess went on the run with the panic Horatio has caused..." , she said annoyed.
"His arrogance will be death of him, I'm sure.", said Nikolay with a smirk." You say word my Queen, I string him to front of car with small intestine, like tiny car trophy."
"Ahahaa, Niko! Car trophy?", she said completely amused.
"Hmm we shall see, maybe?" he laughed, walking to the office door, "I send in Sasha, if you like?"
I am hungry... but..
"Bring Victoria instead, we have some fine tuning to do if the trials are to be a success." Adaleena replied, grabbing the box from the table to remove the phone. Victoria, being the head of our PR department, might know how to spin this into a simple misunderstanding.
"As you wish." Nikolay says, and with a nod he headed out the door.
"Oh and it's called a hood ornament Nikolay!" I called out to him as he shut the door, chuckling.
A few moments later a knock at the door signaled Victoria's arrival.
"Please come in, there's a lot of damage control to be done." Adaleena sighed, waiving Victoria towards the chair opposite of herself.
"What sort of damage control, your grace?" Victoria asked curtly taking the seat offered and pulling out a laptop from her briefcase, straight to business, she set it on the table, opened it and started typing, only looking up when she was ready for Adaleena to continue.
"Horatio has caused a panic by including in the request for their presence, that The Trials of The Three Goddess' would also be performed." Adaleena gritted out through a fake smile.
"I see, and who exactly has he spoken with face to face?" Victoria asked again in the same curt business tone, her fingers flying across the keyboard.
" He has already visited the North America, Russia, Australia, Asia, and Europe territories, He's on his way to South America as we speak." Adaleena relayed to Victoria." Practically everyone. I've been taking calls from upset royals for the last 24 hours."
"And what exactly did you say to them." Victoria asked.
Victoria continued on with her questioning for a few hours, finally stopping when it was dark outside.
" He's really caused a panic, The Trials do not have a reputation for being pleasant. How far am I allowed to take it if the need arises?" Victoria said, shutting her laptop and looking at Adaleena directly." This is going to take a pretty penny to spin in such a way the Alphas feel safe to send their daughters. May I ask why I was not dispatched as usual? This entire thing could have been avoided had you done so."
"No you may not ask." Adaleena said in her Luna tone, making Victoria bow her gaze.
"My apologies Luna, I did not mean to overstep, I have everything I need , I'll have a solution by morning." Victoria whimpered out, the curt business woman, suddenly a scared little pup.
Adaleena didn't have a normal Luna's aura, the power that radiated off of her came as sickening waves to anyone she had to dominate in that manner. The overwhelming urge to flee was the end result every time.
"Thank you Victoria, you may leave." Adaleena said again using her Luna tone.
Victoria grabbed her briefcase trying to shove the laptop in and open the door, which was proving difficult and quite honestly was entertaining to say the least.
Nikolay, hearing the fumbling from the other side of the door, opened it for her but had to jump quickly out of the way as Victoria flew past him completely frazzled.
"Sasha?" Nikolay asked nervously, raising an eyebrow in concern and pointing at her face. He then pointed at the mirror that sat in the corner of the office.
Standing, Adaleena walked to the mirror, her skin had started to turn a sickly grey and her eyes were bloodshot. Adaleena quickly hid her face from view.
"Yes Niko, please bring Sasha." Adaleena said, " Bring Jasmine as well."
"Yes Majesty." Nikolay replied, and hurriedly shut the door.
'Nikolay was a good friend, the day he finally knows how Andrew actually died, will most likely be the death of me...' Adaleena thought to herself as she took one last look in the mirror. ' If I'd had known this is what I would become, I'd have befriended the bottom of that cliff regardless.'
