Becky's POV Gunpowder smelled like it hung in the air as Wolfe stumbled back holding his injured shoulder. Joan's horror was obvious on her face, but I had no time to consider that. My heart throbbing in my ears like a battle drum, I was already running toward Leo. "Let's go!" With a tight voice, Leo yelled and grabbed my arm to drag me toward the exit. "We are not staying to learn what else they have scheduled." Joan's words sliced through the anarchy, her tone poisoned. "You believe you could run, Becky? This is not something one can avoid. We did not, however, turn around. Leo and I hurried off the dock and into the labyrinth of warehouses along the riverfront. The world seemed to be closing in on me, my legs burned, and my breath came in jagged gasps. Still, I continued traveling.
