Paul’s POV As we strolled, I observed Becky with her bruised face softly glowing from the streetlights. She was striving for strength, but I could sense the weight of all she had gone through in her eyes. It still amazes me that I let things spiral out of control. I had believed the lies, trusted the wrong people, and almost lost the one person that meant most. Both of us were buried in our ideas when my phone rang. Glancing at the TV, I saw Joan. My gut turned over, rage building in my chest. Joan had played Becky like a fool while she suffered. "Are you going to answer that?" Becky asked, her voice icy and far off.
