The door closed behind Lydia, leaving me in a frigid, lonely room devoid of anything save my thoughts and lingering fear of her promise. The hard treatment caused my body to hurt, and my mind ran wild looking for a means of escape from this dream. Though Samantha had bought me time — time I badly needed to decide what to do — I knew I couldn't trust her. Pulling my knees to my chest, I encircled them with my arms as though I could protect myself from the crimes outside. My clothes ripped, and I shivered from the cold seeping into my bones.
