Marcus's comments created tension in the room like a live wire hanging there. "Everything. The word kept coming back to me, and I wasn't sure if it was a calculated risk or a foolish one. Though the Broker's smile was as cutting as it always is, there was a flutter of inquiry in his eyes, as though he didn't expect Marcus to be so audacious.
Frozen next to Leo, I tried to understand what this meant. Where were we left if Marcus really wanted everything? And what was his ultimate goal? Though the ground underfoot was only weak at best, I felt as though we were poised on the brink of something historic.
Leo's hold on my arm intensified, guiding me back to that instant. His voice was low, a whisper solely for me. We have to find his angle. Marcus would not act without a plan.
