Paul's POV The gunshot split the air and boomed over the quiet forest, much as a thunderclap. My heart faltered then, before I could think, my instincts grabbed hold. I took Becky's arm and dragged her behind the car to hide her from sight. "Get down! " Whispering violently, I shoved her against the cold metal of the automobile. There was no time to explain; I could see the terror pouring over her, wide-eyed, horrified. Whoever was out there holding a rifle; if we went slowly we were sitting ducks. Paul...
