For over two hours, there was no change in the boys' condition and Birdie was getting agitated. Mr. Richards was getting antsy. She could see it in movements. "We are so screwed." she thought to herself. "Have a little faith. The blood has to work through his body, fixing everything that ails him." her wolf replied. “I am more worried about the man with the gun and armed body guards outside that could end my life.” “Fret not. You have the power to take them all.” Her wolf divine said this arrogantly. “Am I faster than a bullet?” Birdie was curious. It would definitely be amazing if she could outrun a bullet. “I think he is fine now. His heartbeat is strong from what I can hear,” Divine said. “Whoa! You can hear his heartbeat? Why can’t I? I thought we were one.” “That’s because you are not listening.” Divine was getting fed up with her human half. “Just tell the father to bring his doctors so that they can confirm your cure worked.” Birdie approached the boy and pretended to check his pulse and pressure. She fumbled around with the equipment for a while before turning around with a smile and declaring that the patient was all healed. Mrs. Richards grabbed her hands, “Are you sure?” She looked hopeful as she asked. Her eyes were filled with desperation. Birdie nodded and said , “I am sure.” Mrs. Richards moved to her son and placed her hand over his heart. “It’s beating strong.” She gasped. “Come and feel it Richard.” She called her husband, who was eyeing Birdie warily. It seemed like he would have preferred to guard the door so that she could not escape. The boy opened his eyes and coughed. “Adam.” Mrs. Richards’ eyes moved back to her son. “Can you hear me? Do you feel any pain? Are you okay baby?” “Those are too many questions. Let him breathe first.” Her husband pulled her a little bit away from their son. Adam started to cough and threw up foul smelling blood. Mrs. Richards screamed at the sight of the blood. “What is happening?” she asked Birdie. Her nails were digging into Birdie’s arms. For a woman who had been calm and poised in such a situation previously, she was now fierce and ready to kill. Mr. Richards was breathing so loudly that his nostrils had widened. At any moment, he would wring her throat. “Calm down.” Birdie winced and pulled her arms away from Mrs. Richards. “His body is just pushing out the poison that was eating him.” She explained. She hoped they would understand her words. The doctors Mr. Richards had sent for arrived at that time. “Great timing.” Birdie said under her breath. “They can run every test and it will come out positive. I can assure you, Mr. Richards, I have done my job.” The two parents proceeded to pace up and down the room as they watched the doctors check Adam’s heartbeat, pressure and draw some blood from him. Mr. Richards had all sorts of equipment in the room. It had practically been turned into a private hospital, so they didn’t need to leave to test the blood. Thirty-five minutes was all it took to do a full blood count. The doctors were looking at the results with shock in their eyes. “How is this possible?” one of them asked. “What happened between yesterday and today? What did he take?” The other doctor asked Mr. Richards. “Why? Is the result bad?” “On the contrary, Mr. Richards, these results are good. More than good, in fact.” “Yes, everything is normal. Blood pressure, blood cells, heartbeat. It’s extraordinary.” The second doctor said. “We need to study your son and find out what changed. This could be a big win for science.” The first doctor said with excitement. He could picture the glory and awards he would receive with such a discovery. Mr. Richards fell into the chair behind him. He laughed with joy and relief. “Nobody is studying my son.” Mrs. Richards said. “You can leave now.” She ordered the doctors out and opened the door, exiting that bedroom. “But…but...” The first doctor stammered. He was unwilling to leave without answers. “Please just tell us how you did it.” “A miracle happened.” Mr. Richards said and showed them to the door. I trust that you will not be telling the public about my business. I pay you well for discretion. Should the word get out….” He touched his gun for emphasis. The doctors were now afraid. The man before them had the ability to have them killed and wiped off the surface of the earth. “We understand,” they said. They were sweating and sounded like trapped mice. “Good. And just so you know, my men will be keeping a close eye on you and your families for the next foreseeable years.” Mr. Richards threatened. The doctors scrambled to get out of the room like there was a fire and they were running for survival. Mr. Richards looked at Birdie and smiled, “I don’t know how to thank you,” he said. “Pay me what you owe me,” Birdie said. Birdie could not stop looking at her phone. A wire transfer of five million dollars had been made to her account. She had never seen so much money personally in her life. Her father had been wealthy but they lived modestly. He believed that spending too much would cause bad spending habits in them. She worked as a waitress and a maid until she died. She and her children had starved and slept in the cold. But now she had five million dollars. And an additional five had been promised to her if she finished administering the full dosage of the medicine. “He-he- he….” Birdie laughed like a villain. That glucose water was going to make her a rich woman. A part of her felt remorseful for conning the Richards family but she had really cured their son with her blood. She deserved the money. Birdie turned on some music and danced and jumped around the room. She popped a bottle of champagne open and celebrated her first victory. “I want a steak tonight.” Her wolf said. “I played the biggest role in this victory.” “Anything you want, my beautiful Divine.” She promised. “We can afford a million steaks now.” Birdie screamed. “We need to use the money carefully. The babies will be here in eight months.” “I know. Geez Divine. Allow me to celebrate this magical escape from poverty for a moment.” Birdie took a shower and did some online shopping. She wanted to go down and get some food but she needed to look like she belonged in this hotel. The clothes were delivered and Birdie tried them on while dancing. She made her way to the hotel restaurant at around eight o’clock. She was wearing a short white and black floral dress, heels and a tiny purse that could only fit a phone and credit card. She was struggling to move in the heels but the looks of appreciation she was getting from the opposite s*x were gratifying. This place was eye candy, so many handsome, virile men. “How did I only date one man in my last life? A cheating bastard at that?” she asked herself. “Should I remind you about the babies again?” Divine asked. “I can look. It doesn’t mean I will touch them.” Birdie said. One man in particular was more than yummy. He was over six ft. tall, with blue eyes and curly black hair. He was wearing a tight shirt that outlined all his muscles. The jeans he was wearing were hugging his muscular thighs and butt like a second skin. Birdie could tell that she was not the only woman there drooling over him. “He smells so good,” Divine said, “Like our mate should.” “The things I would let him do to me,” Birdie said. The gorgeous man turned around and looked at Birdie. Her heart was suddenly beating so fast. She couldn’t look away. It’s almost like he had hypnotized her. It seemed like he was going to make a move towards her and she was anticipating it. Sadly, before he could take three steps, a man in a suit came and whispered something to him. He walked away with that man. “Bollocks.” Birdie said. Part of her felt like she was losing something special as she walked away.
