Chapter 5

"Madam Rose" The head officer stretched his hand out for a handshake. Rose stared at his hand for roughly five seconds before returning the gesture. "I know the victim and I will be personally receiving his statement" Rose said, not sparing the chief officer an extra glance before turning her attention back to me. "Madam Rose, I respect your position but you cannot assume a superior position in another officer's jurisdiction." The head officer stormed forward standing directly in-between Black Rose and I. I guess I'm not the only one who can't put up with her attitude at times. Too bad... no one must have told him not to talk back to Black Rose cause... "Really? Officer Bruck, a retired personnel, was nearly assassinated in your jurisdiction and you have the hard balls to open your mouth here? Even your superiors don't dare breathe when I'm talking so you better know your place, 'Sergeant' Bruck" I really felt bad for him but... nah, I'd rather not get myself involved. "Hey sugar, mind if we go in? I feel like if I stay outside any longer these horny officers will devour me with their gazes" Yup... that was it, I had to summon all the willpower in me to prevent my eyes from twitching at that comment. I mean, she's hot and all but these officers are just doing their job!! We walked back into the building and sat in the living room which still looked quite habitable. "So... what happened?" I took a deep breath and quietly narrated how the lady that she met was in fact my aunt and we were about to leave when we were suddenly attacked. I didn't inform her about me being the heir to a mafia clan cause dayum... that would've been one hell of a story and I planned on getting my payback myself. She consoled me for a while and then left, lucky for me she didn't act any drama this time and realized I needed peace and quiet. I carried my already packed bag and left the house, my destination, the convenience store. It was close to forty minutes before my shift began. Roughly thirty-six minutes later, I was standing in front of the convenience store, the only thing that was still the same after the crazy day I had just experienced. "Hey Max" I walked in and greeted Max who lifted his head from the newspaper he was reading as soon as he heard the door open. "Well hello there Leon, you look... off? You good?" "Yeah... never been better" I lied with a straight face, and lucky for me, Max didn't push the issue, though he kept looking at me like he knows something that I don't want him to know. I sat behind the counter with Max, closing my eyes to rest a bit before my shift officially began, and like usual two minutes later, to me at least, Max woke me up and signaled that he was leaving. I watched him leave and immediately closed my eyes to continue my peaceful nap. "Sleeping already?" I looked towards the door and saw Max standing there. "What do you want?" I was definitely irritated. "Well... there was this lady who came by earlier with a group of armed men, said she was looking for a Leon, and the only Leon that works here is you. Hope you've not- Leon, have you been doing drugs?" "Ahh doughnuts, I've not and I know who you're talking about. I'm safe. Goodbye." I closed my eyes, obviously not waiting for a response and a few seconds later I heard the sound of the door closing. I don't know how long I slept since my sense of time while asleep is different from time in reality but I got my first customer, and as the devil would have it, it was Black Rose. "Hey there sugar?" "Stay away from me, if you had any more sugar you'd die of diabetes." I muttered with a deadpan expression as soon as I heard her voice. "Ouch, that hurts" I wish I could wipe the smirk off her cheeks but I was too tired to do or say anything. "What do you want to buy, feel free to spend your money" I just wanted her to leave at this point. "I'm sure you just want me to leave but my apologies sugar. I'm here to stay and keep you company" Smack! Yup, I couldn't resist the urge to facepalm, cause I knew that I was sure to have one very, very long night. It's been close to an hour and Black Rose had been anything but useful. Seven customers and she managed to chase four away. And the other three? They had opinions. Lots of opinions. I had already lost count of how many times I had told her to leave but apparently, she wasn't exactly keen on leaving. I tried to sleep but her voice kept ringing right beside my ear and it was worse than my morning alarm. "Rose... I need to sleep. Please!" I finally couldn't take it anymore. I barely caught a bit of sleep throughout the day, and she decided that I still won't be able to sleep in between sales. "Oh my, you called me Rose... I always wondered when you'd just call me Rose without adding the Black" Yup... I instantly regretted that decision. Riiing! I looked at the telephone on the counter and hesitated before picking it up. Since I got employed, no one had ever called the 24Mart customer care line, but what can I say, there's a first time for everything. "Hello, 24Mart Customer hotline, Leon speaking. How can I help you?" I gestured to Rose to keep quiet as soon as I noticed her approaching so she could eavesdrop on the conversation. "Leon!! Yay! For a second I thought it would be the other man." "Mia?" I could recognize that angelic voice anywhere. "You do know that a customer care hotline is meant for complaints or serious issues right?" "Oh... sorry. You'll see me in a bit. Wait for me!" Beep! "Well that was... surprising?" I muttered mostly to myself. I turned to a sight of Black Rose folding her arms, her lips pouted. "How can I help you?" I could feel it coming but there was nothing I could do to stop it. "Who is Mia?" Yup, that was the one. I rubbed my index and middle fingers against my temple while thinking of the safest way to answer that question. But I guess I didn't need to answer it since... Bam! "LEON!!"
