Chapter 2

1244 Words
The night went on with very few customers. My shift was scheduled to end by eight in the morning, but knowing Max, I already planned on staying till nine. Surprisingly, Max was right on time, which was a first since I started working at the convenience store. "Heya bruva" "Good morning" I greeted him and carried my duffle bag, heading straight for the exit. I had a long night and I really needed to breathe. I took out my cell phone, quite an old model, and punched in a few digits before hitting the dial button. Beep! Beep! Beep! The phone rang for a while before the call ended. "Once again, no response. Tsk... it's been over a month now, yet no feedback" The convenience store was quite a way from the major road so I had to walk for roughly ten minutes and lucky me, there was a taxi passing by. "Hey" I hailed the cab. The driver stopped the cab and I boarded it, told him my address, gave him a few notes plus a tip and relaxed, hoping to catch a bit of sleep before I got to my destination. I closed my eyes for not up to two minutes and thirty minutes had passed because well... we were in front of my humble home. Simple bungalow, outskirts of town, peaceful neighborhood. The kind of place where everyone knows each other. I got down from the cab, walked towards my door while fetching my keys from my pocket. Clink! Creeak! The door lock clicked as I slowly opened the door. I felt it... there was someone else inside the building and my gut instinct was telling me that... I definitely am not a fan of the person and... Voila! I walked into the living room and there she sat, facing the door. White long hair, blue eyes, black lip gloss and a deadly temperament. "If it isn't the youngster..." "Can you please, leave my house." I definitely wasn't in the mood to hear anything she wanted to say and I'm pretty sure that she knew that just as much as I did. "So... A convenience store? That's what you chose huh?" Black Rose sized me up from head to toe. Don't ask me who names their child Black Rose, I don't know but that's what she has been answering ever since I got to know her. "Yup, I like it there" I said as I let out an exhale. I had a rough idea of why she was here but before she got to that point... "How did you get into my house, the door was locked" I tilted my head slightly an emotionless expression on my face. "Oh my, how scary. You make it sound like your door lock is the same lock used for the Vault of Strathlr" she uncrossed her legs and stood up. Her tight pants and jacket, generously hugging her figure and due to my height of six foot and five inches, I was graced with a beautiful view of her cleavage that would drive men nuts. I didn't dare stare at it though, not like I wanted to. But even if I did, men have lost their eyes for less. "Oh my, you don't want to take a peek? You know if it's you I don't mind" and well as the devil will have it... she's a demon. She took a few steps forward and pressed her... Melons? Against my abdomen and if not for my divine grade body control, I would have had a street pole erected in my living room. "Please, I need to rest" I pushed her back from her shoulder. "You know, you're one of the people who dare to reject me- twice" "I do my best" I gave her a smile that was definitely not a smile while gesturing for her to use the door. "So you're not coming back?" She looked at me with a very serious expression, every hint of her previous behaviour thrown to the wind. "No. I'm not" I responded after a short exhale. "Then I won't force you. Take care of yourself my love" My eyes twitched at the last part, as she started making her way to the door. "One more thing." I turned to look at Black Rose who was halfway out the door. "Tend to the woman in the guest room, I saw her in front of your porch, she said she wanted to see you before passing out" "And how do you know which one is the guest room?" "The least furnished?" "That's my room" I had to strongly resist the urge to facepalm. "Well, goodbye sugar" Thud! And thus, she left- finally. I went upstairs to my room and slowly pushed open the door. I was greeted with the view of a middle-aged woman, sleeping with a slight scowl on her face. And I recognized her. She was my aunt, Louise. I remember her cause she always came by to play with me when I was younger. She was a close friend of my mum and also the person I've been trying to reach on phone for about a month. The big question that was going on in my head was firstly how she found my house and secondly why she visited. I watched her sleep for a while before heading to the kitchen to cook a simple meal. A very simple one. I loved Japanese cuisine so I made it a mission of mine to learn it and in my own opinion, I'm not that bad. It was a simple meal. Rice and Curry. Spicy, just the way I like it. I took a small serving and went to the living room, turning on the TV as I sat down to watch whatever came up on screen no matter how boring as I ate. Sadly... it was the one thing I hated since childhood... world news. They said a load of bull crap about international relations and other... stuff. "Leon?" I didn't need to turn around to know who it was. "Aunt Louise. It's been a while" I stood up and as she walked towards me, sizing me up like I was some ancient relic. "Look at you, you're all grown up. I'm sure you're popular with the ladies" She had a warm smile on her face, one that I hadn't seen in close to a decade and yet felt so familiar. "It's quite the opposite aunt. Sit here, let me get you something to eat" I sat her down and began making my way towards the kitchen. I think she said a few words to decline the offer but I didn't listen cause I wasn't planning on being a terrible host. I came back a few minutes later with rice and curry for my aunt who was looking at me with an expression that I think, if I'm not mistaken, read as 'you're still as stubborn as before' I watched her in silence as she wolfed down the food, wondering if she had eaten in days. "I'm sure you have questions" She broke the silence. "A lot of em" I responded in turn. "Go on, ask away" "First... what is going on?" I asked her, my gaze intense. "Well... that is the question. And you might want to listen clearly cause I won't repeat myself." I leaned forward, ready to hear whatever she wanted to say. "They're coming."
