Chapter three

1152 Words
ANGEL'S POV I walked into the scene feeling like they were planning my downfall, judging by the way all three of them were staring at me like I wasn't meant to be there. And Larry’s smile? It was something I never thought I’d see in any situation. Something was definitely happening. “What’s going on?” I threw the question at anybody who would give me an answer. “You did it. Come on, let’s go inside.” Larry took me by the hand and led me into the house. Lowkey, it felt like I was being led to my execution because Larry doesn't act this way. We sat around the dining table—all four of us. For a few seconds, there was silence. Then Larry suddenly looked at Zoe. “Excuse us. You shouldn’t be here.” “Why?” Zoe shot back. “He’s my man, and I’m not signing any contract whatsoever, no matter what you say or do.” Larry scoffed, then he smiled. The smile slowly turned into a hysterical laugh that scared the s**t out of me. “Who told you he’s marrying you?” he asked. Zoe stared at him, looking confused. “I’m sorry,” Matteo said, holding up a hand. “I’m... I’m—” “He’s getting married to Angel.” Larry cut him off and delivered the words like a bomb. “What?” Zoe’s eyes widened. “What does that even mean? Matteo?” I swallowed hard. “Don’t make me kick you out of my home, you ungrateful b***h!” Larry snapped. “I make the decisions in my house.” Zoe immediately grabbed her phone on the table. Just like that. Then she turned to me. The look in her eyes made me feel like the devil himself. Her stare bore straight into my soul, and for the first time since I walked through those gates, I realized something. I wasn't the only person trapped in this house. Slowly, Zoe walked away, leaving just the three of us. I desperately wished I could speak to Matteo through my mind. He needed to run. Otherwise, he would be trapped in this prison with us. A man in a sharp suit and carrying a briefcase walked into the house at that moment. We watched as he approached, his steps rhythmic and calculated, each one echoing through the room. “My lawyer is here,” Larry announced casually. I glanced at Matteo. He was muttering under his breath, and I could tell he had a lot on his mind—things he desperately wanted to say to me. Before he could get a word out, the lawyer reached the table. Suddenly, the briefcase slipped from his hand and it flipped open. The contents spilled across the floor and table, documents scattered everywhere. Swiftly he packed the papers. “Sorry about that.” He laughed nervously. Matteo helped him pick the last piece of paper, and his eyes remained glued to it. . The lawyer snatched the papers from his hand like the Grim Reaper was snatching a soul. I immediately noticed the anger in his eyes and Larry’s. Matteo looked at me again, clearly wanting to say something, but he stopped himself. He slowly leaned back into his chair. “Good day. I’m Parker. Let’s commence, and sorry for the... uhmmm.... let's commence.” His awkwardness earned him nothing but silence. We all shook hands before Parker bent down and began rummaging through the scattered papers, somehow managing to scatter them even further. “What are you doing?” Larry frowned. “I can’t find the contract.” He patted his suit pockets. “Oh, it’s in here.” He pulled out a neatly folded set of papers from his inner pocket and smiled. “That’s not funny,” Larry said flatly. “Sorry.” Parker placed the contract in front of Matteo. “Please, sign here.” “Sign what?” Matteo grabbed the papers and began reading, unlike me, who had signed first and read afterward because I had been too desperate for the life I was now beginning to regret. His eyes moved slowly across the pages. “Does she know about these?” He looked up, his gaze shifting between the three of us. Larry gave me a hard stare. It was the kind of look that silently warned me not to screw this up. “Yes,” Larry answered. “I want to hear it from her,” Matteo said calmly. Larry looked at me again. I swallowed the saliva that was building up in my mouth. “Yes, of course,” I said. “I wrote them.” Matteo stared at me for a moment. Then he laughed. “You're crazy.” MATTEO’S POV “You both are crazy. And you are too.” I looked at the lawyer. “Yes, she is,” Larry said with a smile. “What’s next after this?” I asked as I signed the papers. “You move here. Into the mansion. Your room is already being prepared.” He paused, glancing between us. “Our wife can move in with you, if you want.” “Yes, my wife. You mean?” I frowned. “Our wife,” Larry corrected. “She’s mine... my wife.” “Guys, let's not do this, yet.” Parker stepped between us. “This is a new phase in y’all’s lives. Let’s try to keep things peaceful.” I smiled to myself. This contract was already working in my favor. And I was going to make damn sure I used every bit of it. “Let’s go, wifey.” I held out my hand while Angel stared between the two of us, clearly unsure of what to do. Slowly, she got up and placed her hand in mine. “Wait. Would you like a honeymoon?” She barely had time to react before I grinned. “Come on, let’s sit. Sit on my lap.” I dropped into the chair and gently pulled her onto my lap. She was stiff. I could feel the reluctance in her body, and I knew exactly why. She was afraid of the man watching us. I didn’t bother looking at him. “Where would you like our honeymoon?” I asked, rubbing her thigh gently to let her know she had me. Angel kept staring at Larry, who hadn't taken his eyes off us. “I’ll excuse y’all.” Parker suddenly stood up and walked away. “Thank you so much, man,” I called after him. “You’re not funny,” Larry said. “I’m not Charlie Chaplin.” “Hawaii...” Angel suddenly muttered. “What?” Larry cut in. “She’s not talking to you,” I replied immediately. I looked at Angel and smiled. “We’re going to Hawaii.”
