It’s the utter waste of it all that saddens me terribly. In our position sometimes we have the ability to foresee things, hypothesise and make accurate predictions about our students. But this! This is something that happens elsewhere. I had absolutely no idea at all, no inclination. Even if I delve into the deep recesses of my own mind, which I have subsequently done, there is no intimation, no caveat, no clue that I could pinpoint or signify. Nothing.
