Julia Wilde frowned, dodging his gaze slightly, "How come you're here?"
"I was out eating with the guys, didn't expect to bump into you," Rupert said, rubbing his hands and watching her with a sleazy look, "Is the kid a relative of yours? Let's forget this mess then, after all, we're practically family now..."
Julia Wilde was thoroughly disgusted.
Cindy was even more enraged, unable to help but mock, "Mister, are you okay? Our Julia is already married."
"Married?" Rupert's eyes widened in disbelief, "Who did you marry?"
"That's none of your business," Julia Wilde said dismissively, taking Osborn and Cindy by the hand to leave, but Rupert wasn't giving up, grabbing her sleeve and saying through clenched teeth, "You... explain yourself. Our families had everything arranged, and you go off with another man! Who's this jerk..."
Julia Wilde tried to pull away, then suddenly Rupert screamed, "Ouch, ouch, ouch!"
Looking up, Julia saw Simon Kent holding Rupert's wrist, saying coolly, "Hasn't anyone told you not to be rough with women?"
He was handsome and calm, giving Julia an unexpected sense of security. She moved next to Simon Kent, "You're here."
Rupert kept yelping in pain until Simon Kent let go with a frown, and turned to ask her, "Who's he?"
"No one important."
Rupert, eyes red, glared at Simon Kent, "You're the guy with Julia Wilde?"
Simon Kent adjusted his glasses, giving him a sharp, cool look, "I made sure Julia was single when we married. Also, before you spread rumors, take a good look in the mirror. I don't like getting physical, but that doesn't mean I won't."
He didn't know Julia well, but she sure wouldn't have fallen for someone like Rupert.
Cindy was excited, making faces at Julia.
Julia felt a pang of comfort; her marriage to Simon Kent was rushed, and she hadn't held much hope, but still...
His support meant a lot.
Rupert persisted, "You can't leave, this little brat dirtied my clothes..."
Cindy was fed up, "How much do you want?"
"Eighty thousand."
Cindy laughed, "Are you crazy? That rag isn't worth eighty thousand!"
"It's a custom piece from a boutique, it cost eighty thousand!" Rupert sneered at Julia Wilde, "If you can't pay, let Julia spend the night with me, and we'll call it even..."
Before he finished, Simon Kent effortlessly dislocated his arm, his face cold, "A fake and you're asking for eighty thousand? As for you insulting my wife today, it would cost you more than that if I decided to sue. Get lost and stop bothering us."
"You..."
Rupert was furious, biting his lip, but the man in front of him seemed tough. He glared at Julia and the others and left.
Cindy whispered excitedly to Julia, "No wonder you agreed... he's really handsome."
Julia smiled lightly.
The rest of the meal went well.
Simon wasn't chatty, but Osborn liked him, sticking to him all evening.
When it was time to go, Osborn was reluctantly making a fuss.
Julia felt great all evening.
On the way home, she asked Simon curiously, "How did you know Rupert's clothes were fake?"
Simon raised an eyebrow, knowing because he had worn the real thing, but he said, "I know my cars and clothes. Someone like him wouldn't spend eighty thousand on a piece."
Julia complimented him, "You really know your stuff."
Simon hadn't eaten much at the restaurant, so when they got home, Julia made him some noodles. While he ate, she took the chance to shower.
Under the gentle glow of the lamp, Simon Kent was indulging in a steaming bowl of noodle soup. As he looked up, he saw Julia Wilde, who had just finished bathing and slipped into a robe. Dressed in a slender nightgown, her legs shone like white jade, delicate and slim. Beneath her elongated neck, vast expanses of fair skin beckoned.
Being a man, Simon naturally felt the stirrings of desire, which surged within him, difficult to suppress. Yet, he knew that passion wasn't all there was to marriage. With restraint, he averted his gaze and quietly bid her goodnight: "...Sleep well."
Julia Wilde, feeling a bit awkward herself, breathed a sigh of relief when Simon left, saying, "Goodnight."
The next day, Julia Wilde set off to teach at school, while Simon had a meeting to attend. Pretending to earn extra cash driving for Uber, he didn't pick her up from school. When Julia returned, an old man with a sun hat was waiting at the door, a large burlap sack at his feet.
Julia approached curiously: "May I help you...?"
The old man's eyes lit up, happily exclaiming: "You must be Julia! I'm Simon's grandpa. Heard you two were living here, so I brought some veggies and fish I grew myself to visit."
Simon Kent's grandpa... Julia was momentarily stunned, then hurriedly invited him in, flustered: "Grandpa, please come in. Simon didn't mention you'd be visiting today, I'm so sorry you had to wait..."
Grandpa Kent, dressed like a true farmer, dragged his sack inside and scrutinized Julia with keen eyes, instantly content with his grandson's wife.
Two hours later, Simon returned home to find Julia cooking. He glanced at Grandpa munching on sunflower seeds on the couch, frowning slightly, and asked with composure: "Grandpa, what brings you here?"
With a spit of a seed shell, Grandpa Kent chuckled softly: "What, you think it's fine for you to cozy up here with Julia driving Uber but not for me to enjoy some grandparental bliss?"
He kicked the sack at his feet, boasting: "Don't worry, I won't be a freeloader. Brought some fresh produce and meats for my granddaughter-in-law."
Simon's mouth twitched. The crops Grandpa grew were top-notch, genetically modified. The poultry was specially transported and raised. He himself hardly indulged, but today Grandpa was feeling generous.
Julia didn't let him down; the meal was simple yet delicious. Grandpa ate with delight, and after dinner, he lovingly slipped a jade bracelet onto Julia's wrist: "Julia, since Simon's only got Uber, and I don't have much to offer, this heirloom bracelet from the Kent family is now yours..."
Simon gave Grandpa a meaningful look. That bracelet was a family treasure, worth a fortune in the market.
