Eiran assumed he misheard. Somewhere between the s**t speech and the horrible music, he thought she said 'Me' when asked about the mate. His composure was lost somewhere in the confusion. His voice was raspy and thick as he said, "What?" Alyna was calm as if she didn't just drop a bomb on him. Not a single ripple on her face as she repeated. "It was me. I was the mate."
