An Escape Plan

Yeneffer Eliora locked the door firmly. "Who was that?" My legs fought against the chilliness of the floor. Eliora did not respond, she did not even spare me a look as she walked to the only window in the room, checking for something. "I said who was out there?" "No one." She breathed reluctantly as she walked past me again. She went to observe Lily where she lay fast asleep. "Do not wake her." "But outside..." "Forget what you saw out there." She had now confirmed that Lily was sleeping. "Tomorrow, we can take the abandoned flying truck and get the hell out of here." What? I was stunned, not knowing what to say. "Do you not want to escape again? I see you have the spirit. Have you suddenly lost it?" "But you said..." "Forget what I said. I have been planning this for sometime now but I couldn't trust anyone. I think you have what it takes. Besides, I can't be successful all on my own." Words could not express my joy. I held it in, but I'm sure she saw the glitter spread across my face. I knew it. There would be someone who still had the mind to dare and dream of freedom, and that person was Eliora all along. I could see it in her eyes, the fire, the rage. She thirsted for freedom, and so did I. But ordinary thirst would bring us nowhere unless she had a real solid plan. "I have made all the arrangements on my own", Eliora continued. "I have everything we need to flee, only one last thing." Whatever it was, we were surely going to possess it. I would make sure of that. "Tell me. Tell me what it is." She sighed. "Before we can take the truck, we need a special key. It is the only key that can work with that truck and activate it for our escape." "Then tell me where it is. I will get it no matter what." I needed my freedom more than anything else in the world. My anxiety had always been on the tip but now in the presence of hope, it felt it pour over the edges. There was nothing in the world that would change my heart at this point. "The key... Is kept by Lysandra Marble herself." Eliora made the big reveal. "It is the reason I cannot get to it till now no matter what I try. She keeps it in her room and she never lets any slave in except her special maids. Lysandra does not trust anyone easily, anybody who qualifies to be her maid is surely someone who would never betray her." "But we can steal it..." "I tried several times and failed." A noise came from behind the window, causing us to keep mute till after all the guards have passed. "Eventually, the head of maids grew suspicious of me and I was banished from the palace. Till now, I cannot appear in that place or I would lose my life. Lysandra doesn't like me herself, she wants me nowhere near her things. That's why I haven't succeeded till now." That made sense to me. Lysandra was one hateful creature who would see enemies anywhere. There was only one way to outsmart her - To steal from her. "You have to do it." She declared. "But how can I succeed?" She stared into my eyes with a piercing gaze. "Tomorrow our chance will come. It will be our best chance and our only chance. If we succeed, we will leave this place forever. I need you to be ready." Ever since I stepped on this forsaken island, I had not felt any better than I did right now. Surges of hope and positive desires. I could finally go to sleep knowing that I would not sleep one extra night in captivity. I had first thought Eliora would be a problem, I never knew she was the solution. "I knew you were better than..." "Spare me all that." She interrupted, returning to her own bed. "Just make sure you don't tell her, I can't afford to have a scared little weakling destroy all my plans." By "her", she meant one person. I could not leave Lily behind. I still remember the threats Lysandra Marble made to punish Lily for my disobedience. So what would she do if I suddenly disappeared? What would happen to pure innocent Lily? We had to take her with us. We could not leave her behind. "Eliora, we can't..." "Yes we can. And we must." Eliora turned to sleep, not facing my direction. My legs crept back to the spot where I slept, but the thought of abandoning Lily would not settle with me. She was the one person that always reminded me of my little sister, I could not leave her in this hell. Many years ago, when mother was dead, father went on a journey he told us nothing about. He only said it was for the good of the family, but as little as I was, I knew he went to seek revenge for his wife. He left us in care of the pack elders. But Diana could not bear the seperation. Every night, every day, she cried. "Sister, let us go and find father." I would always lie and say, "father is on his way back. Don't worry." One day when she started asking questions again, I got tired and left Diana to herself. I didn't know she would wander off in search of him. When I realized what had happened, I ran to the pack elders. The entire pack went in search of little Diana. As fate would have it, I found her first. A wolf was in front of her, growling, threatening to devour my sister. My fear became rage and my rage became something else that I could not even put into words. The wolf bent away in immense fear and submission, it trembled before my rage. It was the first time I would come to believe what my parents were telling me, that I was a special. A chosen wolf who would fulfill prophecies. My wolf would soon awaken. My wolf must not awaken in this evil place. Yet as muc as I wanted to leave, a promise I made on that night of the search stuck with me. I would never leave my sister behind again. And Lily was now my sister. As I closed my eyes, I felt the gazes peeping again. Through the window, beneath the doors, behind the doorholes, everywhere. The spy was always watching, and it was an alpha spy.
