"I told you to keep an eye on her!" I said to Darius as soon as the door closed. If he had done his job better, my girlfriend would not be out in the middle of the night right now, trying to catch Yennefer Bianco.
"We did." Darius defended himself. "My boys noticed some strange movements at the slave quarters. I came to tell you as fast as I could, but Sheara had already found out about it somehow. She hijacked the information. And you did not make things easy too, making out with Lysandra right at this crucial moment."
I ignored the little jab of words from Darius. I knew I needed to somehow someway stop Lysandra as soon as possible. I had a strong feeling that if she was able to capture Yeneffer, it was only a matter of time before she would find out her real identity. That must not happen.
"What else did your boys say?"
"The movements were towards the west." Darius said, his eyes said the rest.
"They are going to the forbidden ship." I realized.
"No one has taken that ship in years." Darius warned. "We have to stop your crush."
The next look I sent him was enough warning to dry out his jokes. "Do not ever say that again."
It was a command. Darius had no choice but to bow in response, but something told me he was going to c***k another joke in the future. That was who he was. The calm headed, composed, funny Darius who was never scared to joke with the truth. Except this was no longer true. I had no more feelings for Yeneffer. I only wanted to keep her identity secret so I could be the one to use her in capturing her and nobody else. There was no other reason.
"Let's go."
We rushed outside, heading straight for the place where my the ship was. But as soon as we walked into the hall where Sheara usually held her council meetings, the biggest shock of the day was waiting for us.
"Look who it is." He said, standing above everyone else like he owned this room. He wore a sadistic smile as he glared straight at me, bleeding with hate. "My little brother. How much I have missed you."
I had not expected to find that bastard Malcolm in here. What was he doing on the slave island? No one had mentioned that he was coming. Whatever it was, I had no time to care about him. This was a bad time. I had to make sure that Yeneffer was not able to escape.
Malcolm was not the only person present here. Beside him was Derek's tall companion. Derek Marble himself sat a few metres away from Malcolm, his wife, and his daughter by his side. And they all looked at me hard.
"Save me the reunion, brother, I have important things to take care of." I quickly dismissed myself, happy that Lysandra seemed to now be distracted from her mission to hunt Yeneffer. That was quite unbelievable. There was nothing that could stop Lysandra from pushing through with her emotions. But I did not have time to think. I did not have the time to wonder.
Before I could make another move, Derek Marble cleared his throat. "If by important things, you mean stopping those runaways, you should not worry about it anymore. It has been taken care of."
I took a moment to pause. "What are you talking about?"
"Malcolm here has apprehended those little runaways. They surely had no idea that the prince was paying a visit to the slave island. That is unfortunate for them." Derek seemed satisfied with my brother's achievement. I did not like the looks of that.
"Don't worry, little brother." Malcolm said in his usual demeaning manner. "I am always here to succeed wherever you fail." He saved a glance for Lysandra, I knew what he meant. That so-called brother of mine. Ever since I could remember, he had always sought after everything that belonged to me. He had always blamed me for everything he lost.
Malcolm came closer. "I was just about to tell our kind hosts about the ladies who almost escaped the slave island today."
"It is that Yeneffer, isn't it?" Lysandra demanded, certain of her suspicions.
"Brilliance..." Malcolm nodded. "That is one thing I like about you." He smiled.
"That b***h! I will make sure her life is as hellish as hell can be. She will regret ever trying this!" Lysandra swore.
Malcolm smiled more. "Rage. That is another thing I like about you." At this point, my brother was standing right in front of me. "But i am sorry to tell you, dear, you will not get the chance to have your rage fester on the bones of that silly little thing."
"Why?" Lysandra asked.
Malcolm stared me in the eyes. He was now closer to me than ever. Darius was beside me before, but he moved away slowly, giving space just for the both of us.
"What do you want?" I looked right back into his eyes. Whatever lay within, it was callous and dangerous. I knew Malcolm was up to something.
"The runaways will be taken back to the capitol to appear before my father. Consider this as a command from the alpha himself." Malcolm announced to the entire room, but his words were directed into my face. Then he turned to leave, only for me to grab his hand tightly.
"You do not speak for the alpha!" My voice was low but certain. I was the heir to the alpha. I speak for him first, not my brother.
Malcolm was not shaken in the least bit. He whispered into my ears. "Is that so? Then how would the alpha take it when I inform him that his own son, his own heir has been hiding his little crush who is the daughter of Adrian Bianco on the slave island? He would be so disappointed."
His words cut me like deep ice. This was the scenario I hated to see unfold. Nobody was meant to discover her identity. Yet the worst possible person has discovered it. I knew he was going to expose this secret, it was only a matter of time.
"What is it, brother? You look like a flying bird caught within the teeth of a monster."
