Yeneffer
When morning came, Eliora was the first to awaken. She came to me and stroke me, not roughly yet not gently.
"Get up, we have to go now if we want to get it."
As I woke up to her call, somebody else was waking up as well.
"Are you guys just really getting along or am I still in a deep sleep?" Lily yawned, stretching her hands and feet. "And what is this thing you want to go get?"
Eliora ignored her, she returned to her place to get dressed. In silence, I dressed up. I was still conflicted within myself. If we succeeded and stole the key on this day, then would I really leave Lily behind on this island?
"Since you obviously don't want to tell me, is there any way that I can help?" With her smily face, Lily stood before me. My heart burned with discomfort.
"Stay here," I told her. "We are going to do something dangerous. If it doesn't work out, then you have to be safe from the consequences."
The smile on her face was covered with fear. Lily knew what danger meant, she could probably already imagine the sort of things I was up to.
"Let's go now." Eliora stepped out. I held Lily's hand and promised her. I would be safe and I would be successful. Ignoring her dissenting stares, I soon strolled beside Eliora. Yet I had no idea where exactly we were to go.
"Where are we going?" I asked.
"Lysandra's room." She responded confidently.
"Will she not be around?" I wondered.
"Did I not tell you? Today will be our best chance."
As soon as we came towards the special houses, I could see people gathered in huge numbers. Soldiers and maids, all arranged in respect. A man walked out of a flying truck. He looked to be in his fifties and he was accompanied by men who looked beastful and loyal.
He looked powerful and highly respected, one could think he was the Sunfyre alpha. But even though I had never met the Sunfyre alpha, I had heard many troubling stories of him. Stories so grim and specific that if I ever saw him by chance, I would recognize him at once.
"Who is he?"
Eliora frowned. "That is the man who created the slave island. He is the best friend and most loyal servant of Alpha Denver. His name echoes as much evil as that of his master."
"The blood beta?" I had heard that nickname from my father ever since I was a girl. He talked about the evil beta who would cause wars between packs and was always in the way of peace anytime the Bluewinters met the Sunfyres. Was that this man?
"Derek Marble." Eliora uttered. "He is the husband of Sheara and the father of Lysandra Marble. And yes, he is the blood beta."
Listening to the words, my fists tightened and I bit my lips. True to it, Lysandra strolled towards the man to embrace him. By her side was none other than Vermin who held her hand tightly as if he wanted to steal her for himself. That made me even more annoyed for no reason. Stupid Vermin, did he want to marry that obviously rude and evil wench?
"They will all be busy today." Eliora interrupted my thought process. "So it is your chance to find the key in Lysandra's room before anyone can come back. I will lead you to the room and keep watch outside. If someone comes, I will make a signal."
I listened, knowing that my survival depends on this one mission. If I succeeded, then it was only a matter of time before I escaped this cage. Eliora held my hand tight and said her final words.
"Remember, if you are caught, we are dead. Both of us."
She had given me all the information I needed. Together we evaded the few guards left within the mansion, later we found ourselves in front of Lysandra's room.
"Go on now."
I was on my own as I made my way through the door path. Lysandra Marble had the most luxurious room of any girl I had ever known in my life. Not even the princess of the Bluewinter pack lived in such luxury. Jewels and glitters decorated the walls of her room, as well as blood and bones. Most people's rooms were either completely full of death and devoid of life, or completely full of life and devoid of death. But Lysandra's room was a perfect blend of both. I could not explain how she made it happen, but there was a stylishness in the brutality emitted by her room settings. I was not surprised, Sunfyres were all psychos. Same with Vermin. He was a psycho too. A psycho who could easily bite the hand that fed him in the past. I remembered how he held Lysandra Marble like she was some precious treasure. How he humiliated me in front of her, to please her. It broke my heart anew even if I hated him. I must have my revenge, and the first step to that it to find that key and walk out of here unseen.
I began to search. Along her bed, beneath her dresses, beside her aesthetic skulls, the fangs and the collection of wolf claws, the dragon shaped closet, everywhere. There was nothing.
But the key must be somewhere, it must be. And I had to find it.
Then I stepped on it. Golden coloured round thing lying helplessly on the floor.
"How did it get here?" I had no idea, but I knew that this was definitely what I was looking for.
Picking it up, it glowed for some unknown reason in my hands. The light was bright and dazzling, it was beautiful too. But I did not care about lights or beauty, I cared about my escape. I had what I wanted, it was time to walk away.
"Yeneffer, someone is coming." Her voice came.
"What did you say...?"
There was no response. I could tell that Eliora had walked away from the door and new footsteps were approaching the room in a fast combination of motions. They were coming, and they were coming fast.
Quick, I slipped the glowing thing into my dress, hoping that the lights would vanish on time. The footsteps were even closer now and with them came voices.
"You stupid wench! You were supposed to remind me if I forgot anything!!" It was Lysandra and she did not sound happy.
"I am sorry, mistress. I warned you but you were too happy for your father's return that you did not listen."
What came after was a loud and resounding slap. "Don't ever talk back at me, you fool!"
By now, Lysandra was right in front of the door and whomever she was with must be one of the slaves. As the door opened and Lysandra walked into the room, I braced myself for this disaster.
