Chapter 5: Nikolai's POV
“Don't move” and I don't. When an Alpha speaks to you, you respect them and you keep your inner thoughts and demons down along with your head until they ask you to speak.
The only problem I'm having is that I don't speak so I'm screwed.
“Who did this to you?”
“Look at me,” he says as he towers over me. I try my best to keep my body firmly planted on the spot but it's hard when I have had men tower over me and abuse their power as a role of the pack members to humiliate me and terrorise me to the point of dreaded fear all for their own laughs and fun.
His fingers coast so gently over my cheek that throbs with even the smallest of twitches and touches but it isn't that gentle nudge that's making me feel more nervous, it's the touch of a mate. I smelled him the moment I sat down in this room, I could feel his aura in here before I even opened my eyes but I didn't expect to find him in here on the biggest night of the year. I was expecting him to have company at-least.
There isn't any point in signing my answer because he obviously doesn't understand it so I slowly walk around him, very aware of his eyes boring into my state of clothing and write on the piece of paper again before handing it to him.
He reads it aloud which even to my ears, sounds stupid.
"I work here. I accidentally hurt myself while cleaning when I got back to work earlier" when the truth is, Rosie gave me a good slap to the face because she was angry at the choice of clothing I wore to an important night and she was ashamed to have me as a living, breathing waste of space is what she said. Then grumbled when I didn't even scream.
"Trust doesn't come easy to you. Does it little wolf?" he asks and I feel like a total muppet for even shaking my head because you never tell the truth herd. You lie through your teeth and hope and pray that you look believable.
Staying exactly where is he, he sniffs the air as if searching for something a little more than what I am giving. Looking into something that should be left so far out of reach it's not even funny. It isn't he who will see the consequences of this if my Alpha finds me in here. I'm not even supposed to speak to anyone so for me to be in another Alpha's room will resort to punishing consequences.
His phone ringing pulls me out of my terror long enough to look back down in shame.
What is wrong with me? Apart from the obvious things that is?
"Yeah Rem?" he says as he turns away from me. Taking this opportunity to get the heck away from this part of the house I take it.
Only to run into our Alpha who looks like he is about to blow a gasket.
Lowering his voice to a whispered sneer, he matched my height when I felt the pressing of his sharp nails to my collarbone.
"What the f**k do you think you are doing? No, don't actually sign that s**t. I don't care but you do not...disturb Alpha Nikolai...you especially don't f*****g talk to him!"
It's only then that I feel the presence of Alpha Nikolai behind me. My skin feels clammy and my heart is picking up pace. My body is exhausted and I have two Alpha's here. One to my side giving my shoulder a hard squeeze. This is his way of showing me who is in charge. To put me in my place when he thinks I'm slipping. Dominance ... meet obedience.
Obedience ... Meet Mr asshole.
"Alpha Zade. Please remove your hand from your worker" Alpha Nikolai says and I can see the moment Zade knows he isn't going to win this round with someone who is a lot more stronger, bigger muscle mass and has atleast 4 inches on him but the look he sends my way as he lets me go shows me that this isn't over.
It's just getting started.
Why didn't Alpha Nikolai tell him I was his mate/ Is he also waiting to humiliate me and reject me the moment he can? I know I'm not up to their standards, I'm an omega for goodness' sake but surely I can't have bad luck all my life.
"Now. I have to be home in Portland by evening tomorrow and I have a 9-hour drive so please I will be at your office at 7 am in the morning to discuss business with you. I expect a trade for this generous thing I'm considering on doing for you Alpha Matthews."
"Of course Alpha. Anything" he says as he passes me without so much as a glare.
When Alpha Zade walks by, so does the mystery I call my second chance mate who looks like he's about ready to do something very regretful.
"Speak soon Little wolf..." he says as he walks away from me.
Crap.
