MY STALKER

1192 Words
Once my final lecture of the day was over, I walked home. Kyren was still in class. Everyone was still in class. As I walked home, I felt an arm wrapping around my shoulder, and for a split second, I became paralyzed with fear. "Heading home?" Brie asked, and I let out a relieved breath. "Never sneak up on me like that again." I snapped at her while holding a steady hand against my pounding heart. "What's wrong with you? Do you have a stalker or something?" She asked, and I frowned at her. She started laughing before shaking her head at me. I didn't laugh, I couldn't even bring myself to smile. Brie must have noticed because the smile slowly dropped from her face. "A stalker?" I breathed out a laugh. "You just surprised me, that's all," I said, sending a nervous smile in her direction. "I actually have something to confess," she muttered under her breath, and my heart rate spiked again. "What, Brie? Stop speaking riddles and just tell me," I snapped at her. "I overreacted the other day. I never should have called you a bigger asshole than me. That title belongs to me," she sighed. "I just had this huge argument with Logan because he was being weird." "I'm not mad at you, and you're not an asshole. You and Jia are like sisters to me. And sisters fight all the time," I uttered, and she pulled me into a tight hug. "I'm so glad we made up, Hails," she uttered with a broad smile on her face. "Wait, why was Logan being weird?" I curiously questioned, a light frown resting on my forehead. "Oh, he started med school this year. He's using it as an excuse to dump me. He bailed on me for three dates that he had asked me on! I didn't even want to go until he asked me." She angrily uttered, running a frustrated hand through her hair. "Med-school?" I asked, all the air escaping my lungs. The realization hit me like a punch to the gut. I already ruled out the doctor. That meant that my stalker was either a medical student or part of the staff, working in the medical wing. "Do you know where he is right now?" I curiously questioned, and a frown creased her brows. "Why do you want to go punch him in the face?" She asked, balling her hands into fists. "Brie, just tell me if he's there or not," I uttered, and she nodded. "Since he doesn't have practice today, he's definitely at the hospital," she mumbled while gesturing in the direction of the medical wing. I nodded before pushing past her, heading straight to the medical wing. Logan would have the answers to a lot of my questions. I grabbed my phone from my small designer purse before calling Kyren. His phone was ringing but he wasn't answering. Right... he was still in class. He'll be out in five minutes. I sent him a short message before slipping my phone back inside my purse. After a seven-minute walk, I finally reached the medical wing. Logan was sitting on a bench outside the hospital, holding a drink in his hand. He seemed to be deep in thought as he stared up at the sky. I made my way over to him before taking the seat next to him. "Hails? What are you doing here?" He asked, as his gaze finally landed on me. I laced my arm with his. "What are you thinking about?" I asked while looking at him, and he let out a heavy sigh. "We've been friends for a long time, right?" he asked, a light frown settling between his brows. "Did I really change that much?" "Changed, how?" He ran a tired hand over his face. "I studied law for two years, Hailey. But not because I wanted to. I did it because all the men in my family are lawyers." "And you decided to break the cycle. That's very brave of you." I told him with a small smile on my face. Logan scoffed before turning to face me. "Maybe, but all of this just makes me wonder," he paused to take a sip of his coffee. "It makes me wonder what's real and what's not." "That's why you've been bailing on Brie," I stated in realization. "Brielle," he sighed with a smile on his face. "She deserves better than me, someone more decisive." "Just go to her and tell her how you feel. This is affecting her just as much as it is you." I informed him before clasping my hands together. "Fine, I'll muster up the courage," he said, clenching his jaw. "What brings you this side of campus?" "I came here to see you," I chirped out. "I need to ask you something." "Shoot." "Do students have access to Dr. Reynolds' office?" I curiously questioned. "No. Dr. Reynolds' office is off limits. Unless he sent someone to get a file... or something from his office." Logan calmly explained. "What about the janitor?" I asked before sitting more upright. "The janitor? Sure, he has to clean in there, right?" He chuckled before taking another sip of coffee. "Right, can you show me to the janitor's room?" I questioned with hope-filled eyes. "You're being weird. Why do you want me to show you to the janitor's room?" He narrowed his eyes at me in suspicion. "I would like to ask him a few questions. I'm doing a survey." I blatantly lied, and Logan started laughing. "Alright, don't tell me," he knowingly stated. "Alright, I'll show you, but I have to get to class, so let's make it quick." He said before tossing the rest of his coffee into a nearby trash can. I jumped up before following him into the hospital. "Slow down," I muttered before reaching for the taser inside my purse. I didn't grab it, I simply held onto it. For safety reasons. As we walked down the long hospital corridor, I started feeling like I was being watched. The hairs on the back of my neck were rising. My stalker was somewhere in this hospital, and the janitor was at the top of my list. We finally stopped in front of a small door, and I sucked in a nervous breath. "The janitor's room," he announced into the quiet corridor. "Do you want me to stay?" He asked while staring down at his watch. "You can go," I whispered, my eyes never leaving the door. "I'll see you around, Hails," he uttered before jogging down the corridor. I waited until he was completely out of my sight. I nervously stretched out my trembling fingers. I pulled the door open before I could change my mind. I froze when I found a man standing inside the tiny room. He had his face to the wall, and I was now staring at his broad back, covered in slashes. Old scars. He slowly turned to face me, and my blood ran cold. That's when it hit me that I was completely alone with him in an empty corridor.
