Sasha's room was too quiet. The silence pressed down like heavy air, thicker than it had ever been before. The last words Xavier dropped...Sandra's name...still lingered in the air, hovering like a knife above all of them. Evan had gone still at first, his jaw tight, his eyes unfocused like he was somewhere else for a second. He tried to brush it off, tried to mask it with his usual smug control, but Sasha could see it. The way his throat bobbed when he swallowed. The way his hand fumbled with his shirt for a split second before he forced himself back into being calm. Xavier didn't say more.
