Sasha woke up to the sharp buzz of her alarm clock. For a moment, she just lay there staring at the ceiling, blinking against the faint light seeping through the curtains. Her body still felt heavy, reluctant to start another day, but she reached over and silenced the alarm before it could annoy her further. She sat up slowly, pushing her messy hair back, and glanced at her phone on the nightstand. A faint half-smile tugged at her lips as she remembered the date. Her birthday. No one knew. She never made it a big deal...didn't post it on social media, didn't go around telling people. Growing up, birthdays were just days that passed with maybe a slice of cake if there was money, sometimes not even that. She had learned to carry on without expecting much. Only one person had ever made it
