Madison looked to both of us.
“I’m just going to wait in the car for a moment. I have to FaceTime Declan, He’s been asking where I’m at all day.” Madison pulled out her phone and started to fix her hair.
“Hannah I just want to understand what’s going on.” He reached for my hand. I let him take it and I watched as he intertwined his fingers with mine.
“Lee I can’t deny I feel something when I’m around you.” I looked into his eyes, his hazel eyes were just as gorgeous as James’s hazel eyes. “Soon I will explain everything. Right now I don’t think is the time for it.” Lee brushed the hair out of my face.
“I understand.” I knew he was saying what I wanted to hear, but he wanted a better answer then that.
“I have to go.” I unlaced our fingers and started to walk to the door. Lee ran over and grabbed my hand. He didn’t say a word and just walked with me. The silence wasn’t uncomfortable. Before we got to the front door, he pulled me in for a hug and kissed my forehead.
“Good bye for now.” His whisper sent shivers down my spine. I impulsively squeezed him tighter and he returned the favor. I slowly broke free and got into the car. Madison started the car but didn’t say anything. I know she had asked me to think of James more, and I had yet to really give James much of a chance.
“Let’s go pick something for you to wear tonight!” Madison perked up and I gave her a weak smile. We headed to my home and for the first time I felt uneasy going in. I took a deep breath and got out of the car. Madison took me by the arm and gave me a smile. We walked in and my mom came around the corner.
“Hannah, why am I getting calls from the school that you weren’t in today?” She had her hand on her hip.
“Because I didn’t go. We went to the library to study. It doesn’t matter, school is over soon anyways.” I knew I was being more rude then normal.
“What’s wrong with you? You’ve never spoken to me like this!” My mom didn’t even really seem to notice Madison standing there awkwardly.
“I just-“ I exhaled “I don’t want to talk about it!” I stormed off to my room and Madison ran after me. We got up stairs and sat on my bed. Madison hugged me, my mom was my only friend until recently. It felt like everything I knew just a few weeks ago had shattered.
“Let’s pick something nice, but not too nice!” Madison got up and started ruffling through my closet. Part of me was looking forward to this. Maybe I would enjoy being around James. Maybe he really was my mate chosen for me from the moon goddess.
I got dressed and Madison put some light make up on me. She hugged me, she was so happy I was giving James a chance. She couldn’t stop talking him up. My body pinged with jealousy because they were so close growing up. My phone dinged and James told me he was there. Madison gave my a air cheek kiss to not get lipstick on me. I looked at her with envy, because she was everything I wasn’t. I got up and walked out quickly, Madison told me she was going to stay and clean up. I got outside just in a nice tight pair of jeans, heels, A flowy top, and a light duster. Madison found a nice little hand purse. James looked at me in awe. My heart jumped at the sight of him. James gave me a warm smile and opened the car door. I got in and took a few deep breaths. James got in and leaned over softly kissing my cheek.
“You look absolutely gorgeous.” His hazel eyes sparkled in the glow of the sunset.
“Thank you.” I said back in the nicest voice I could muster. I looked back at my house. I saw Madison in the window looking down. She had a ecstatic expression on her face. She seemed almost happier then I was. The car drove off and I watched her as we drove away.
We pulled up to the edge of the forest a clearing wasn’t too far away and James got out first opening the trunk and pulling out a picnic basket. I got out while he was grabbing things from the trunk. The evergreen trees of Oregon were so beautiful this time of year, when it wasn’t raining that is. James came up to me taking my hand with his free hand.
“Shall we?” He said softly as we heading a little ways in. We looked over the Columbia river, it was a gorgeous spot for a picnic. “I wasn’t sure exactly what kind of sandwiches you liked so our chef made a couple different kinds. There’s a BLT, a turkey, and a honey ham.” He laid out the blanket and held my hand as I sat down.
“Turkey is fine.” I looked back out at the water. The sunlight danced on the rippling water. “James this place is gorgeous.” He placed the food out and looked out at the water, taking a seat next to me. I laid me head on his shoulder. A warmth came over me and my whole body felt relaxed. All the stress from the day washed away. I felt like it was only him and I and nothing else mattered. “I can stay like this forever.” I said in a low tone.
“I would love that.” James said. He turn to me and I lifted my head. He placed a soft kiss on my lips and my everything felt like static shock. We pulled away and looked at each other. Those hazel eyes looked into my soul. “Shall we eat?” James said reaching for a sandwich. We sat, talked, and ate. It felt like I was with a friend. We laughed and just admired each others company. Things were different when I was with Lee then when I was with James. I couldn’t explain it. James cleared everything and we both laid back on the blanket just looking at the stars. I cuddled up to him laying my head on his chest as he lightly rubbed my back. This night had been so perfect.
“Hannah I’m so lucky I found you. I was so depressed and alone before you came in to my life. I know a lot of people were worried. I’ve been happier since the mate bond released. I never stop thinking about you.” I laid there listing to his words.
“I’m happy we did this today. I hope there are more days like this in the future.” I said slowly rubbing his chest.
“There will be days like this our entire life. I will treat you like a absolute queen if you let me.” I looked up at him and he leaned down to kiss me. We softly explored each others mouth. A kiss so light and tender. We broke away and he looked into my eyes. “I can look into your beautiful green eyes forever.” He said softly kissing my lips and then trailing down my neck. He pulled me close to him nibbling at my ears. The sparks sent pleasure through my body and I let a soft moan out.
“I don’t want to disrupt this perfect moment but it’s 10:30 and past curfew.” I said catching my breath. James let out a disappointed exhale against my neck. I giggled at the ticklish feeling.
“Ok my princess, I will take you back to your palace.” James got up and let out his hand. He pulled me up as well and we both cleaned up our picnic. I held James hand and pulled him to the car, the smile on his face was intoxicating. We put the stuff in the trunk and he pulled me in for another kiss.
“Last one I promise!” James leaned in and kiss me once more before we departed our perfect evening.
