Chapter 13 - The Search

Once at the library we searched certain key words. Alpha twins, Alpha Henry, battle of 1608. We were busy pulling books when my phone went off. I pulled it out to see it was a message from Lee.

“Hannah, I know you’re seeing James tonight. I wanted to let you know that I am ok. I know we aren’t a couple but what I said is true.” What he said? I looked at the message confused until the second message came through. “I love you Hannah.” I knew he could see I read the messages, but I just couldn’t respond. Something tugged at my heart.

“Hannah! I got the books let’s start looking!” Madison called to me. I walked over and sat at the table, she was placing books around. We began to flip through books and search. Most of them had the same information. Alpha Henry and his twin brother Fredrick fought in a battle against a neighboring pack of werewitches. The pack lands had been mostly burned down and rebuilt. Alpha Henry and his wife Luna Ashley were both casualties of the gruesome battle. Alpha Fredrick took his place as Alpha and ran the pack until his son was of age to take over.

“I feel like there’s information missing.” I said flipping pages of another book.

“Oh my gosh look at this!” Madison handed me a book about twins in packs. I read it out loud.

“Twin pups born to a pack are mostly two separate eggs. Identical twin pups are more rare. Identical Twins have been known to share a mate bond or share a mate. It’s usually the mate bond that’s strongest with one twin to the recipient that pack Doctors have referred to that as the couple chosen by the moon goddess. Doctors have found once a mate is marked and the mate bond is sealed and either identical twin can mark or be marked without any feelings of pain or needing rejection. The other twin’s bond feelings will fade away leaving them to find their mate or second chance mates. There have been reports of brutal jealousy resulting in challenges or death if the bond has gone on too long without a seal.” I stopped there and looked at Madison. Things were making sense but there were still more questions. We started putting the books back but I held onto the one about twins and mate bonds. I intended to check it out.

“So I guess you do have a choice. Part of me is still not convinced.” Madison said slightly concerned.

“I understand, I want to talk to the doctor and I need to find out where I can get more information about Alpha Henry and Fredrick.” I looked over at the librarian and placed my card up with the book.

“Ladies if you need to research a certain Alpha, most information is in the pack house library.” It was like a light bulb went off in my head. “You of course need permission to enter the library. I myself have only been in there once.” The librarian ran my library card and then handed me the book. I thanked her and we went out to the car.

“I know how we can get into the library.” Madison cooed at me giving me a snide look.

“How?” I replied hoping it wasn’t too illegal.

“Give me your phone for a moment.” I slowly handed her my phone. I had a feeling I knew what she was about to do. “Done!” She handed me the phone back and it gave a ding. I looked down at the message and read it out loud.

“Please come over right away! I will meet you out front.” From Lee. I turned to her, “Madison!” Madison giggled as she started the car. I sighed heavy as we headed off toward the pack house.

When we arrived Lee was out front and when he saw me, his eyes lit up and sparks felt like they flew out of me. I smiled wide, I felt so elated to see him.

“Oh my gosh you’re smitten with both of them.” Madison shut off the car and we got out. Lee ran to me hugging me in a tight embrace. He held me for a moment until Madison walked past us coughing.

“So the pack library? It’s not very big you know.” Lee said holding my hand and leading me inside. It was the second time I had been in the pack house. I didn’t want to think about the first time. He got to a pair of dark tall French doors, Lee held the door for us.

“I’m looking for information about a alpha for a little extra credit in history. Alpha Henry James?” Lee raised a eye brow.

“Extra credit? And it’s just a coincidence he had a twin and James is named after him.” He looked at Madison who was already scanning books. “Wait what’s going on here?” Lee had called our bluff.

“FOUND IT!” Madison called out holding up a weathered book that had a worn 1608 on the front. We all walked over and she opened it.

“Wait here!” I pointed to a drawn picture of both Julia and Alpha Henry laying on the rubble. I started to read the page out loud.

“The battle of Spell vs Moon. As Alpha Henry James traveled to neighboring packs trying to recruit Allies in case of future attacks. In one of his meetings he had angered the leaders. This was the werewitches of Red moon but often referred to as the spell pack. They maintained their innocence after the burning and m******e of our people. Alpha Fredrick came upon Alpha Henry killed battling the Evil Julia Langoria. Julia was Luna of the Red moon pack, her husband Alpha Charles Langoria stayed behind presumably to rally the troops. After the death of his beloved Luna, it’s said Charles put a curse on the pack calling it the love bird curse.” We all looked at each other. It was always said we were referred to as the Love bird pack because our mated wolves could never stay away for fear of death. No one had ever mentioned a curse. Then the thought of Julia being a werewitch?

“What was it your sister said Hannah?” I had told Madison the full story the night before.

“She told me there was a rumor that Henry had a mistress that was a witch. I wonder…” I turned the page and it went on to detail the rebuild of the area. “I guess this is it?” I said closing the book and taking a deep sigh.

“Now is anyone going to clue me in as well?” Lee looked at me.
