Seeking The Past

Chapter 10 - A Deeper meaning.

My nightmare didn’t start like it normally did. I stood above the man, he was badly injured laying on the rubble. His breathing was shallow, I could never hear the words spoken in my nightmares. Usually I heard screams and howls. I knelt down by his side. I couldn’t get over how much he looked like James.

“Julia…” The man reached his hand slightly. I said nothing. The man coughed, blood trickled from his lips. “Julia, it didn’t have to come to this.” I took his hand. “Tell them when the time comes, …” suddenly I could see his lips moving but the words had no sound.

“Good bye Henry.” I heard a deep voice. Looking up, I saw a man who looked more like Lee. The man pulled out a sword and held it up high. I dove on top of man.

“HENRY!” My whole body shot forward. I looked around my room. Lee was gone but my window was left open. I started to cry. I felt overwhelmingly sad. Julia and Henry… I had heard that name before. I jumped out of bed and searched for my pack history book. I was throwing things around my desk. I spotted my book bag and frantically dumped it out. I heard my door open but didn’t turn to look. I spotted it in the pile of school notebooks. I opened it and started flipping the pages.

“Hannah you are sooooo loud this morning.” I heard Angelica. “Also did you sleep in your panties? You never sleep in panties. You always complained they give you a wedgie if you don’t wear shorts or pants.” I paused looking at her, she just watched me. Is it possible she heard anything last night? There was no way right?

“I got hot.” I said turning back to my book flipping pages. My heart sunk as I read.

“Alpha Henry James Greyback.” I read out loud.

“Are you studying for a test?” Angelica was asking too many questions but she seemed generally concerned I was trashing my room this early in the morning.

“Died 1608… it doesn’t give any information just that he dies in battle and his twin brother … became alpha.” I dropped the book. I was starting to shake. I’ve been having these dreams my entire life.

“Yeah our elite high school is still named after him. Alpha Henry High.” Angelica had opened a book not noticing my general terrified reaction. “Did you know there’s a rumor that Henry had a mistress who was a witch?” Angelica said as she looked up. “Hannah are you ok?” Angelica got up kicking text books out of the way making a path to me. “What’s wrong Hannah? You’re scaring me!” I was hyperventilating. My whole body was shaking and my eyes welled with tears. Flashes of Henry laying in rubble, the blood. I held my head as it throbbed. Angelica jumped up and took off out the room. “MOM MOM HURRY!” I couldn’t get it together. Did she say witch? Have I heard that rumor? My mom burst in the room.

“Hannah!? What’s wrong baby?” My mom rushed over and Angelica stood in the door way. One of my younger brothers peeked his head in as well but Angelica tried to block his view.

“The dream is real…” I said in a lower tone. I began to feel faint. I couldn’t steady my breath, my head pounding became too much, and then I looked at my mom. Her eyes were filled with panic, and then all of sudden everything went black.

I heard a voice “It didn’t have to come to this.” Flashes of fire and screaming people. Flashes of Henry laying with blood trickling from his mouth.

“Julia… Julia, it didn’t have to come to this.” My eyes trickled open. I was in a empty hospital room. The machine was beeping. I looked around me seeing flowers in the corner. I heard the door pop open and closed my eyes. I wasn’t sure why I felt the need to pretend to still be asleep.

“Thank you nurse.” It was James’s voice. That stern assertive voice. I heard him walk over and sit in the chair next to me. When did he get here? I felt him take my hand and rub my palm. He was being so sweet and here I laid riddled with guilt from the night before. I opened my eyes and slowly looked at him.

“Hannah your awake!” He said happily. He got up and kissed my forehead. His kiss sent sparks down my spine. “Hannah you past out at home and no one could wake you. You’re at the pack general care facility.”

“I’m sorry.” I said to him, meaning more then just worrying him but I didn’t have the heart to say more.

“It’s ok Hannah. You should rest.” He sat back down and took out his phone. After a moment my phone started to buzz like crazy. “That’s probably Madison. She’s been worried sick.” James smiled at me.

“This might be a odd question.” I said looking at him shyly. He looked at me and gave me a nod to assure me he was listening. “Do you know anything about Alpha Henry Greyback?” I said. He gave me a confused look before continuing.

“Well my father named me and Lee after him and his twin brother. Henry James and Fredrick Lee, but just their middle names. He said he didn’t want it to be obvious. They were the only other Alpha twins born to our pack line. It’s somewhat of a honor or oddity to have alpha twins I guess.” He looked at me, seeing the worried look on my face. “Why did you ask?”

“It’s nothing. I just read a little about it this morning. Then my sister mentioned a witch and I’m not sure what else happened…” I trailed off and a moment later the door burst open and Lee hurried in.

“Hannah! Are you ok?? I just heard!” Lee was extremely worried.

“I’m ok Lee, thank you.” I said giving him a smile. James was visibly annoyed.

“What are you doing here Lee? I can take care of Hannah on my own.” James said not getting up from his seat.

“Stop it James! I can’t come see my friend?” Lee came over and hugged me. A warmth emitted from his touch. James let out a growl and Lee looked at him. James had risen from his chair.

“Get off of her Lee. I’m not going to ever warn you again.” James said almost ready to fight.

“Both of you stop!” I sat up and the machine next to me started to beep like crazy. The nurse came rushing in.

“What’s going on here!? Everyone out!” The nurse ushered the boys out. Both growling back and forth at each other. The nurse shut the door and turn to me sighing.

“Girl I don’t know what you got but lend me some!” She wandered over checking the papers studying my heart beat. I looked out the window and thought to myself, what had I gotten myself into?
