Chapter 11 - The Doctor

After everyone left it was pretty quite. I watched out my window as clouds slowly passed by. The door to my room opened and I half expected it to be James or Lee. Instead it was a woman in a long lab doctor.

“Ah Hannah I presume?” The woman approached with a chart. “I’m Doctor Fairview. I noticed it says you fainted on your chart. Can you tell me anything before you fainted?” The Doctor looked at me and I started to sweat. If I told her about my dreams and connecting it to something in the past that may or may not be real she would think I was crazy.

“I’m sorry I don’t remember much. I was studying and I became overwhelmed. I didn’t know the material at all.” I tried to lie but I was so terrible at it. The doctor studied my features.

“Well yes it is common for people to grow extremely panicked when they don’t take school work seriously and try to buff up the last minute. Perhaps it was a panic attack? Does it run in your family to have anxiety or panic attacks?” She began to flip through my chart.

“Um I’ve never seen my mom or dad have one but-“ the doctor cut me off with out thinking much.

“Oh I’m sorry Hannah, I didn’t realize you were adopted. You probably don’t know your family history.” I stared at her blankly. My parents adopted a lot of children but my mother told me I was her only child.

“You must’ve mistaken me for one of my siblings. My parents take in a lot of pups with no parents. My mother has always told me I was her only blood pup.” I didn’t want to even think about something like this. I had too much going on already.

“Oh… I’m sorry my apologies. I will take it up with our receptionist.” She turned to walk away.

“Doctor…” I called after her.

“Yes my dear?” She turned around with a smile.

“Is it common for twins to have a mate bond that can be felt between them? It’s just not something I’ve ever heard of.” The doctor took some steps back to me, she grabbed a chair and sat down.

“The alpha twins?” She asked looking at me. I nodded my head. “I knew I saw those two goofs in here earlier. Growling at each other like a couple of children.” She shook her head. “Which one do you feel the bond with my dear?” She had a reassuring look on her face.

“James.” Her face looked surprised.

“So you’re to be our future Luna? I didn’t know we had someone so precious in our facility today.” She giggled. I looked away not wanted to be called Luna at all. “I apologize again, but I’m surprised that boy has a mate so soon. Hannah when twins are identical or monozygotic, meaning they are part of one egg, it’s possible for them to have the same strong feelings or bonds. Alphas don’t normally have twins and it’s been said that many alpha twins can be… problematic.” The doctor trailed off.

“Problematic?” I looked back confused.

“Well in the sense they are basically a Yin and Yang symbol. They’re basically the same person with all the personality traits the other one didn’t have. Or maybe saying two sides to one coin is a better way to put it? That’s why you can probably touch or feel affection to one or the other without affecting the mate bond. I’m taking it Lee has said or done something to make you question the bond you share with James?” The doctor looked at me but I didn’t want to return her gaze. I stayed silent, but my expression wouldn’t relax. “Hannah I’m not a hundred percent sure how mating bonds work with identical twins, but if you like, I will look it up.” Doctor Fairview stood up and began towards the door again. “If you’re interested in learning more about alpha twins, maybe check the library as well.” She didn’t turn back. Just exited the room quietly. There were so many things racing in my mind. Henry, James, Lee, a witch, these nightmares, and now possibly being adopted. The stress was building and I felt the tears rush to my eyes threatening to spill over. I swallowed hard trying to push my feeling back down. I didn’t have time for anymore apologies. I needed to find things out on my own. After I’m free to go, and as soon as I could get home, the library was my next stop.
