Chapter 2 - His eyes

1027 Words
I opened the door and slammed it shut. I was breathing heavily like the vision had chased me home. I took a step back and jumped to my mom’s voice. “What the heck Hannah? The little pups are still sleeping!” She whispered in a demanding way which made me shrink where I stood. I didn’t mean to slam the door or run from the nicely dressed business man. My inner wolf just felt scared for a moment I guess. “I’m sorry, it’s been just a weird morning.” I tried to apologize. “Was it the dream again Hannah? I told you it’s just a dream.” She moved to hug me and I welcomed her embrace. She pulled away and looked at me. “We need to talk.” She motioned us towards the couch. “Your 18th birthday is soon. Most woman find their mates at 18.” I signed heavily. “Stop! Hannah this is a serious talk! Look!” She adjusted in her seat. “Your father and I want you to continue to the training college. You’ll get a wonderful education and if you start before your 18th birthday, the less chance you have of finding your mate right away. You’ll have a higher chance of having a wonderful job and not becoming someone’s pup factory!” I kept my face stern and waited for her to finish. “I have no intention of being a pup factory mom and I don’t think I want to be a warrior. I want to be me. I want to travel and I want to explore education outside the pack.” I knew she would lecture me. It was hard to leave the pack grounds. You needed the alpha’s permission to study abroad, to be among the humans, and sign contracts to never speak of the supernatural unless you became mated to a human. If you mated to a human, well then there was a whole slew of other problems involved. Most families refused for their children to leave the pack with worry of having half breed pup grandchildren. My mother stared at me. The silence begin to make the tension in the air build. “Hannah you’re too special to leave. You belong close to home. You belong in higher standing and becoming a warrior-“ I cut my mom off. “Isn’t what I WANT. I’m sorry mom. I don’t feel like that’s the life I want. I want to see more and do more then that.” I crossed my arms. “Well, regardless the Alpha has invited us to the graduation ceremony where you will officially be offered a place in the training college and I have accepted the invitation. Before you protest, We are going.” Her voice was stern and my mouth dropped with disbelief. Most young wolves would decline if they intended to study abroad, accepting a invitation was like accepting your place in the college. I jumped up. “YOU HAD NO RIGHT!” My eyes began to tear. “Hannah… you have to understand. I have a obligation to do what’s best for you. You have never once mentioned studying abroad! You have never said no when we took you to extra classes, and when they invited you to come to the elite Alpha Henry highschool, you accepted without hesitation.” She pulled me back down to the couch as I started to let my tears fall. I’ve never protested my family before. I did anything I could to make them proud. I always felt as if I owed them something. “I’ll attend the ceremony. I won’t promise you that I will stay and go to the college.” I wiped my tears. “You will change your mind when we talk to the recruiters.” My mother seemed certain. “I don’t want to talk to recruiters.” I sighed. “I need to get ready for school.” I jumped up and walked up stairs. School was the same as it was any other day. The classes were buzzing with people talking about the ceremony. I let myself glaze over just watching out the window. Then I felt something. It felt like eyes just burning holes in my back. I turned and saw Declan staring at me. I made a quizzical look and he continued to stare. I wasn’t sure why he was staring as people who were mated normally don’t look at anyone but their mate. Declan found his mate on his 18th birthday in the middle of his party. The school talked about how romantic it was for weeks. I could only scoff. Love was such a stupid idea. Like the moon goddess really picks someone special just for you. The moon goodness should see how much my parents fought everyday. Declan broke his gaze when she entered the room. Madison was the most beautiful and the most popular girl in the school. Everyone thought she would be fated to one of the alpha’s sons. She squealed and jumped into Declan’s arms showering him with kisses. I groaned at the display and looked back out the window. Suddenly I felt someone tap my shoulder. “Excuse meeeeee!” A sickening sweet voice said and I turn to her. It was almost as if the sun shined out of everything around her. Madison was a vision of pure beauty. “Declan sent me! He wants you to come out with us tonight. Will you come out with us?” I was taken back. No one from this school ever paid attention to me before. In fact I was so busy with training and school work that I didn’t have many close friends. “Please say yes Hannah!” She peered at me with her beautiful blue eyes. “Of course! I would love to!” The words came spewing out before I could stop myself. Madison squealed with joy grabbing my hand and dragged me over towards Declan. She was surprisingly strong for her smaller frame. Declan stood as we got close. “Hannah.” He extended his hand.
