8. Rachael ||
I hadn't slept a wink last night. It was harder than I thought, my eyes just wouldn't shut itself. Especially with the presence of a man like Ethan beside me.
What the hell happened? I wanted to scream in excitement! I had kissed a man I barely knew! We almost went all the way!
My question, was why he had stopped? I was nervous, but I wanted it. He suddenly had cold feet and started acting like a proper gentleman.
"—I'm so sorry Rachael," I repeated his words with scorn.
A proper gentleman that had wrapped his large masculine arms around my body and devoured my lips like he was hungry!
I sat up frustrated in bed. I couldn't deny I didn't want the extra step, but somehow I was grateful he had stopped there.
Thinking about it made me blush, with how gentle he was for a man that looked very dangerous.
Dangerously handsome.
I wasn't sure how I would face him after that. Even now, I might not be able to look at his face.
I looked around the room. It was no surprise to me that Ethan wasn't there. He must have left at the crack of dawn—just around the time I fell asleep.
Now that there was light, Ethan's room was large!
The window seemed very far away, now that I saw it. His room was as large as my former home, with a lot more space.
The white and grey colour on the walls blended in alternate patterns, with a large art portrait of himself at the back. There was a picture, a younger version of himself with a white called mountain in the background.
I got to my feet and looked at it. It must have been very precious to have it framed there. Apart from that, the room was quite empty, as the wardrobe was far back.
A lot of empty space and a maid waiting in place.
I nearly jumped as I noticed her for the first time. "How long have you been there?!" I screamed. She was the one from yesterday.
She looked different today, with her red and black maid uniform. "Good morning, my lady," she greeted politely.
"How long...how long were you there?" I walked around the larger-than-life bed.
"Master Ethan told me to watch over you when he left, I've been here for a while, my lady."
I sighed and sat on the bed. "Christ—fuck."
I just remembered I had lost my uncle and stared silently at the rugged carpet. The tears were gone, but that feeling of emptiness—it was bearable now. I felt partly filled.
Might be from what Ethan and I shared.
I looked back at the maid that had been waiting for orders. She had incredible posture, and it made me wonder how long she stood there. I didn't ask, though.
"Gosh, I wish I could just stay in bed for a long time."
"That won't be possible, the grand Alpha has demanded you appear for lunch. He wants you to share your first lunch, together—"
"Excuse me?" I was on my feet. I remembered how bad our last meeting went.
She looked startled but regained her composure immediately. "It will be best if we left for the lunch now."
I might be a prick sometimes, but I wouldn't want to disrespect the Alpha, because he had saved my life by letting me in.
"How do I even go to said lunch? I don't have proper clothes." I shrugged.
"That's what I'm here for, I will help you get prepared," she assured me. "Let's start with the bath, we are running late."
"Why? It's only morning."
"Lunch is at one, this is one thirty, the alpha is waiting."
The maid actually helped me with everything. From the bath to the dress, she had done her work very fast. I learnt her name was Sarah and she didn't talk a lot. She was only concerned with helping me, no small talk, nothing else.
I frisked the helm of the black gown I wore. It was my perfect size, and it made me wonder if they had known of my dimensions.
The lunch was scheduled at a large garden. Now that I was out, I noticed everyone was wearing the same black and red uniform she wore. The guards were dressed in black and reds, the officials, the ones that walked around with robes had some variation of black and red.
The werewolves did this, because there were a lot of packs. Distinguishing themselves were by wearing different uniforms.
Edgar Frost waited at a table, he was having tea and cookies while reading a newspaper under a large shade that had been constructed there. There were six guards, that stood at either side of the shade and watched. Their uniforms were different, brown and red instead.
Sarah stopped right before the guards and went on her knees. She looked back at me.
"You are late," the guard, a man behind a mask grunted. He had a dangerous looking mace at his side.
Sarah said nothing and turned back. "My lady, the Lord is waiting."
I planted both hands at my side and walked slowly past the guards. Their eyes slowly watched my movement and I made to meet up with their master.
I slowly approached the wooden table, that had seats at the side. He closed his newspaper as soon as I stopped there.
"I was wondering when you would show up. The trust was, I never expected you to show yourself after yesterday. How are you feeling now?" He had a friendly vibe around him. He seemed very different from yesterday.
I remembered I had to pay my respect. "My lord—" I made to bow down.
"Hey, hey, stop. What are you doing?"
I looked up at his puzzled eyes. "Paying my respects?"
"No time for that, have a seat. Have you eaten?" He asked, staring at the kettle if tea and covered cookies.
"I'm—I'm fine," I lied. I remembered he had asked of my wellbeing. "I'm fine now, thank you."
"That was good to hear, I'm sure you are not having any problems?"
I remembered Nathan choking my neck out. Chills spread on my back. "Not much, Ethan made sure of it."
Edgar Frost slowly sat back and watched me silently with a small smile on his face. "I wish there was time, I wanted to talk to you, but well, maybe another day."
"I'm sorry about that, I had a rough night." I held my neck.
His eyes narrowed and he smiled again. "I see, but I will say what's important." He flexed his knuckles and there was a serious air around him. "I heard what happened yesterday, I know you spent the night with Ethan, because my son Nathan attacked you."
My heart skipped. I really hoped there wasn't a problem there.
"Relax." He checked his watch. "I'm not chewing you out."
"Where's Ethan?" I asked.
"Ethan is out, let me impart this important bit of information."
I felt really nervous, I scratched my fingers. It was all I could do.
"My son, Ethan is betrothed to another woman."
