11 Luke “Nothing, just…” Joe started, then he brushed by me into the dark coffee shop. I followed behind him, shut the door and locked it, then noticed the paintings we were supposed to have hung leaning against the wall. Joe picked one up and walked to the window and stared at it using the streetlamp for light. “We never got around to finishing this, did we?” He murmured, then put the canvas back with the others. “I’m sorry, I guess I’m a little more tired than I thought. Could I have a raincheck, you know, on the going upstairs? I have a lot on my mind.” The shadows from the streetlight made the dark circles under his eyes more pronounced, and I suddenly felt the lack of sleep myself, but I wished I could spend another night with him in my arms, instead of alone in my bed.
