“Do not trust a single word that comes out of her mouth.” Joe stated when the door shut behind her. I knew they had a dark past, but I wanted to trust my gut, and it was saying she wasn’t playing me for a fool. “What happened?” I asked, and Joe glanced away. “I mean, like, why are you so distrustful of her?” Sneaky placed another round of shots in front of us. “Your mother told me to keep the tab open. She’s taking care of both of you tonight.” Joe hit the bar with his fist. “Jesus, she thinks she can just waltz back into my life and buy me and my friends off?” Sneaky’s mouth dropped open, then she grimaced and walked away. Joe’s anger radiated off of him, a side to his personality I’d never seen before. He sat very still for a moment, while voices from the pool table across the room
