6 Luke An overdressed woman with dark hair, glossy red stilettos and major jewelry staggered out of the bar on the arm of a tall man in a black suit as I was crossing Broad Street. She seemed to be drunk, but what made me pause was her reaction to spotting me. The woman nudged her sunglasses up and stared in my direction, then shook her head and let the man deposit her in the back seat of what I would swear was a Bentley. “Maybe she’s a wealthy drag queen?” I murmured, then waited for traffic to thin a little before stepping off the median and crossing the final two lanes. Right when I was going to push open the door to the bar the Bentley was pulling out of the lot.
