'Curiosity killed the damn cat'

999 Words
Alonzo's POV: I'm shocked, utterly shocked. Did she just say my name was hot? Funny thing is, I don't really think she meant to say it out loud. Actually, I don't even think she realized she did. Deciding to spare her the embarrassment, I decide to just let it slide. I know how it feels like to be betrayed by your mind and mouth at the same time, saying things you didn't mean to. - Her mind was up in the clouds again, probably thinking about my hot name, so I gently tap her forehead twice with my finger for her to come back to reality. As soon as she did, I saw her beautiful brown orbs staring right into mine, causing a shiver to run down my spine.  'God, she's gorgeous', I thought. "So, since you haven't read my file and I don't have one on you, how about we get to know each other?" I ask, thinking this would be a nice way to win her trust so that I can find out who's caused her those injuries that are now almost healed. "I've always liked the game '20 questions'", I hear her answer softly while looking at her hands. 'Perfect', I thought, I'll get to know my future wife. —————————————————————————— "WHAT?" I hear her scream again while I carry on laughing my face off, "WHAT KIND OF MONSTER PUTS A SOCK ON, THEN A SHOE, THEN THE OTHER SOCK AND SHOE?!?" If I'd know my revelation would have such an effect on her, I would have prepared myself for the full on laughter I've been experiencing for the past six minutes. My body hurts, A LOT, but the confused and disgusted-like look on her face makes me forget about the pain. "How do you suggest I should do it then, farfalla?" I ask amused, still laughing slightly. "You should obviously put both socks on and then both shoes" she explains.  "Your parents must have fooled you into learning it the other way only for you to make a fool out of yourself later..." she muttered under her breath, that being the only possible explanation. We've been asking each other questions for the past forty minutes, and so far, I've learned a lot about her. She doesn't know where she was born or who her parents are, and she's fine with not knowing. According to her, she won't beg for people to stay in her life, those who truly love her will stay without being asked to, and I couldn't agree more. I also found out she's seventeen, she loves snakes and says they're as cute as puppies, if not even more.  She's been in many foster homes until she was 'adopted' by her current guardians, Mandy and Gerald. Her favorite color is burgundy and she adores Lindt chocolates.  My mind is cautiously registering all this information for when I get out of here and am able to pamper her with all the gifts she deserves. Maybe I can get her an anaconda... It isn't until I feel two soft taps in my forehead that I realize I was daydreaming. I look back at her and see a little smirk plastered on her kissable lips.  Hot damn. "So, whose mind is in another planet now huh?" She asked smugly. "Well I guess you're starting to rub on me farfalla". I answered right back. She lets a small chuckle out and stares right into my eyes, as if they were the most interesting thing in the room. - We stayed looking into each other's eyes for what felt like the shortest eternity ever, until I decide to break the silence. "Why didn't you come back?" I decided to ask, remembering she missed three counseling sessions after her panic attack. She must have understood what I was asking about because she didn't hesitate at all when she answered. "What I go through at home... I don't even know how to explain that to myself. And, you asking me about it was a first. No one truly ever cared" she explained, never once taking her eyes away from mine.  "I guess once I realized I had to put all the nasty situations that I've experienced into words, my mind got blocked", she continued.  "I really just needed time to process everything" I nodded in understanding. The things she must have experienced... I can't even imagine. "My turn now" she began.  "Why are you here? I completely understand if you don't want to tell me since it's none of my business really, but as I haven't read your file, I really don't have a clue" I didn't answer right away, and I guess she took that as a sign of me being offended, because she suddenly started rumbling none stop, much to my amusement. "Please, forgive me if you think I'm intruding, that really isn't my intention, I just want you to know you can tell me, I promise I won't judge" "Jenna that's not why-" I begin explaining, only for her beautiful voice to interrupt me. "Truly, if you don't want to tell me a swear I won't feel offended, I was just curious.  God I should really remember the saying 'Curiosity killed the damn cat'..." Just then, a look of shock and regret crossed her features. "Not that I think you're gonna kill me, of course!Cause you can't".  "I mean, not because your imprisoned or anything, but because I know you wouldn't do that, although the handcuffs wouldn't let you anyway". She then takes a huge breath after what felt like forever and places her head in her hands while saying: "Oh Lord, that whole sentence came out incredibly rude, didn't it?" 'That was only one sentence?!' I thought to myself.  Damn, this girl has a really good pulmonary resistance. "Jenna, that's not what I was gonna say" I begin, hoping to the heavens she'll let me finish my sentence this time before jumping into conclusions. "It took awhile for me to answer because I was thinking of a way to explain my situation" Once those words were said, she visibly relaxed and an 'Oh' was shaped in her mouth. "I trust you Jenna, for some odd reason, I do". I give her a small honest smile before continuing. "So this is my story. This, is my true self..."
