They're scared of us

1030 Words
Alonzo's POV: After the fight incident, prison became a lot quieter since the governor increased the number of guards and improved the security systems. Two years ago. My farfalla left two year ago and I still can't get her out of my mind.  It's like the memories of her are so ingrained to my soul, I feel I saw her yesterday. I so desperately want to see her again, touch her, hear her. Anything but this abstinence torture I'm being put through. My cellmate and I have decided to keep each other out of trouble so that we could be released earlier, both with the intention of finding the girl we loved once we got out. That morning, a few hours after we woke up, a guard approached our cell and told us the governor wanted to see us immediately after lunch. Thinking it would be about the communitarian hall incident that occurred two weeks ago, we believe he must be asking around to see if someone knew who started it. - We had just had lunch when we were heading towards the governor's office escorted by four guards, who walked quite stiffly, as if fearing our next move. "They're scared of us", my buddy whispered in my ear smugly. "What was that?", one of the guards demanded. "I SAID: THE CEILINGS ARE NICE", he answered over-pronouncing every word as if he were talking to a child. With a scoff, the guard stopped in front of a door and knocked twice before being informed to let us in. The guards led us to the governor's desk and sat us on the chairs in front of it, handcuffing us to them so that we wouldn't hurt him when they left. With a nod, they all excused themselves leaving us alone with our Mario-looking superior. He sat on his big chair and looked at us both before grabbing some papers which held information about us. "So", he began. "Inmates 102519 and 127348..." We waited for him to continue, which he didn't for the next five minutes since he was reading our behavior studies from the past six months. "Never thought I'd be saying this to any of you, but you've been behaving quite well for the past few months", he spoke. Some minutes later, he put down the papers. "Listen children, I'll be honest with you. I want as few people in this prison as possible. Maintaining an inmate costs an awful lot of money, you know? And by the looks of it, you're both in condition to leave". I couldn't help but smile at his statement.  They'd let me out so quickly? It's only been two years...? "But, I cannot just let you walk away of course.  Alonzo, your original sentence said you'd have to stay in prison for another ten years minimum, but here's what we'll do. You'll stay for another two years, if you keep your behavior in check, then I'll let you walk out". I did it, I finally did it, I can't believe I'll get out, and even sooner than expected.  Wait for me farfalla. "And as in for you young man", he said while turning his head to my left. "It says here you should stay for another five years, but you too have been such an exceptional inmate that I'll make you a deal.  Keep behaving and I'll let you walk out in a year". I turned to face him as well to see him nodding frantically at the governor. "I will sir, I promise", he answered with a small hopeful smile. "Alright then, that'll be all. Remember to behave children, you wouldn't want an opportunity like this to go to waste". - The darkness of the night was slipping through the small window in our cell, signaling sleeping time had arrived. We both lied on our beds, thinking about the opportunity we'd been given earlier today.  He'd be out in a year, and I'll be out in two. I told my farfalla to wait five, and it would actually take four years for me to leave.  I can't believe I managed to convince them to let me out. Turning my head to the right, I saw my cellmate with a lost gaze, looking into nothingness with an intense look in his eyes. Thinking back into our time together, I realized we didn't really know much about each other, but I preferred it better this way. When he asked why I was in prison, I had only told him I was falsely accused of being my father's murderer, I left the whole 'assassin of the mafia' out. And now that I think of it, I don't really know what he did to end up here with the rest of us, and knowing full well me asking him could hit a nerve, I decided to do it nonetheless. As my farfalla said, curiosity killed the cat, but she forgot to say 'satisfaction brought him back'... I'm bored anyways. "Oy, cell buddy! I got a question for you", I said catching his attention almost instantly. "Shoot". "If you don't mind me asking, how did you end up here in prison?" With a soft chuckle, he sat on the floor in front of me.  "I don't mind pal, don't worry. Well you see, my father was quite the abusive character, and he hit my mom on a daily basis. He'd always threaten to r**e my little sister too, so as my eighteenth birthday was coming up, I planned a way to take my sister from him, and asked my mother to move away. We thought we had it all under control until he figured the whole thing out.  He took pictures of the bruises he left on my mom and reported them to the police, saying I had been responsible and I was planning on hurting my sister too". He got his life ruined unjustly as well, and for some sick reason, it made me feel better.  It made me realize I'm not the only one having bad luck in life.  I am not the only one that has been betrayed. "He got me in here and left me to rot as if my life meant nothing", he said with hatred laced in his words. In that exact moment, I knew I wouldn't be the only one seeking revenge once I got out. Another year for him, and two for me. But no matter the time, we'd get out.  And once we do, all hell will break loose.
