Melanie had applied to USC a few months before graduation when she found out that I had been offered a scholarship there. Turns out, I hadn't been the only one planning for our future together. She never told me, though, because she didn't want it to affect my decision on which college I was going to attend. Of course, USC happily accepted her. Someone with her academic excellence who had early acceptance into Berkeley was too good for them to pass up. She also got offered a scholarship there as well.
