The morning light crept shyly through the heavy curtains that veiled the windows, as if the villa itself feared being seen by daylight. The air was cold and still, filled with an echoing silence that lingered along the marble corridors.
Malek sat behind the minister’s grand desk — the same desk that still carried the faint scent of its owner, the trace of his papers, and the scattered files across its polished surface.
