KANE'S POV
" Alpha Kane, the silver haired woman you asked us to find is..."
They exchanged fearful glances.
I frowned
"Out with it!" I commanded.
"She's Alpha Hogan's daughter"
I froze.
Alpha Hogan, our pack's worst enemy. He was known to be a tyrant and when we did cross paths, it had ended in a catastrophic war. My father has been his ally and friend and together they had fought in the battle between the humans and werewolves and when he was needed the most, he abandoned them.
My fist clenched tightly drawing blood
The warriors stepped back in fear.
How could I be drawn to his daughter?
I dismissed them
And without hesitation they ran from my presence as best as they should .
I stormed into my room, slamming the door heavily and paused in my tracks as I found Luna sitted comfortably on one of the arm chairs by the corner of the lavish room.
"What's got your britches in a bunch?" She asked .
"Nothing that you need to concern yourself of" I responded and stomped to the wardrobe
"It's about that woman, isn't it?"
I paused in my tracks and turned to see her give me a wan smile.
"What's wrong?"
I stepped closer
"I saw her" she declared.
I blinked twice.
"What.."
"I saw her standing on the ruins of our land . I saw her silver mane and fire blazing all around her ." she narrated .
I pulled a seat to position myself in front of her .
"And?"
She hesitated then her eyes glazed white .
Her irises completely gone.
When fang kneels to moon
and instinct outruns the crown,
the marked Alpha shall feel ruin
and mistake it for loss.
From shadow and frost
she will come unbidden,
bearing silver in her hair
and the old quiet in her blood.
He will hear her before he sees her.
His wolf will name her
what the world forbade.
Then her iris appeared and she breathed out of the trance.
"What does this mean for me ?"
"It means your union is going to bring about the destruction of both our packs" she warned .
"No"
I rose from the seat and paced the length of the room, running a hand through my hair in frustration
"Why does everyone keep trying to tear us apart?"
"It's not everyone, it's the prophecy"
"Prophecy be damned!" I roared.
Worry creased her brow. She recoiled as If she's been slapped .
"You don't mean that" she stated in disbelief .
"I need her!"
"My prophecies have never been wrong!' She cried .
"You have to see what this girl is doing to you. She's affecting your voice of reason" she added
"I will find her and there's no prophecy that will keep us apart." I declared and stormed out of the room leaving Luna calling for me .
"Kane!"
****
That night I felt my insides scream out. My wolf was restless. Clawing at me, wanting, wailing. We needed her .
And the fact that I couldn't go to her now caused me sleepless nights .
I had to fight myself.
The internal turmoil between my head and my heart.
My pack and my happiness.
The prophecy and my need .
Beads of sweat ran down my back as my body writhed in the quiet dark night.
My heartbeat sped up until I had to sit up straight clutching chest, I groaned in agony.
I needed to see her now .
But I knew that crossing the border would mean war. Our pack's rivalry had been standing for centuries and as the alpha it was my responsibility to uphold the pack laws .
Luna's words rang in my head .
"My prophecies have never been wrong!"
And as much as I didn't want to admit it, she was right.
She had raised me after my father and mother has perished in the war and she has never been wrong .
Her word had become the law .
And she was always right .
Then why was every inch of me screaming that she was wrong .
"I don't even know her name"
I whispered in the dark.
The self-realization hit me like a ton of bricks.
I laid back against my better judgment.
My head winning the argument.
I closed my eyes tightly until I succumbed to the dark.
I found myself in a different room. Poorly lit but bright enough for my wolf vision to kick in .
“You smell different,”
I heard a growl.
My eyes found a crumpled mass at the corner of the room.
“I crossed no laws,” she replied carefully.
It was her. I could not fully make out her silhouette in the shadows but my body told me that was her.
My interest piqued now, I watched the scene before him.
The figure stood, towering, eyes cold as winter. “The moon disagrees.”
I watched her wretch out her guts, spilling some on the figure's shoe.
“Please leave me alone,” She pleaded, hands shaking.
The shadow laughed
“You’re with child from a stranger. "
My world tilted.
I took a step forward but found that I couldn't . I was rooted on the spot.
"Tomorrow is our wedding and I promise that by the time I'm done with you, that bastard child will be a forgotten memory." The shadow spoke bending down to his haunches.
"I've always loved you but you never looked at me. You never gave me any of your attention. If I'd known it was just a good f**k that you needed, I would have taken my chances a long time ago."
He reached to caress her arms, frightened she tried to get away from his grasp.
"Don't touch me!"
He scoffed
"You'll sing a different tune by tomorrow" the shadow promised.
"I'll never marry you. This baby will stay"
The shadow rose to his full height, his hold on her arm was tight as he brought her up to her feet.
She cried in pain but he didn't stop.
I found myself punching the invisible wall in front of me. Separating me from them.
Violently, I was yanked out.
"Alpha Kane!"
I awoke startled .
"I need to find her "
The soldiers frowned.
"Luna said the same thing"
"What?"
"She's in danger"
"Get our men ready" I ordered .
"Sire?" My beta asked .
"We're going to crash a wedding"
This was war.
