I sat in the coffee shop quietly reading the New York Times. Erica had called earlier and said she wanted to meet there. The door to the coffee shop opened and I looked up to see her walk in. I smiled and set my paper aside as she strolled up to my table. She immediately reached into her purse, pulled out two invitations and began waving them at me. “I have the invitations for the fundraiser tonight,” she squealed excitedly. I reached out and took one from her. It was to be a black-tie charity event, with a charity auction at the end. “Five thousand dollars a plate!” my eyes opened wide. “It’s for charity,” she sniffed, grabbing the invitation back from me.
