Selene's POV
But as the triplets escorted me out of the room, The last words of the night Clan’s leader rang through my head: “This isn’t over” as he looked at me with such a dark intensity.
The pack house was in chaos. Members of the pack sprinted through the halls, frowns creasing their faces. We didn’t hear the Elders approach, but soon their arguing voices filled the hallways.
Kade, Ronan, and Elias guided me through the main hall, their forms shielding me from the storm of emotion and activity surrounding us. I could feel their eyes watching me, their concern clear as day, and yet I kept my eyes straight ahead, my mind racing.
The Midnight Clan. Just the name chilled me to the bone. They were cruel, vicious, and hated the Bloodfang Pack. But why target me? What did they want?
As we entered the main hall, the Elders turned toward us, faces grim.
“Selene,” one said, his voice laced with concern. “Are you alright?”
I nodded, even though my arm still hurt. “I’m fine.”
The Elders looked at one another, and one strode up. “This attack transforms everything. The Midnight Clan is brazen to attack our pack house. We must protect our pack house.”
Ronan’s jaw clenched, a fire igniting in his eyes. “We will defend what is ours,” he said, in a confident voice.
Kade and Elias nodded in confirmation, their faces stoic.
I felt both grateful for their protection, but also uneasy. But that was almost irrelevant — the connection between us was growing and it was going to eat all of us eventually.
While the Elders debated the details of their plans, a hand landed on my arm. I looked over to see Kade, concern in his blue eyes.
“You ought to get some rest,” he said softly. “You’ve had enough for tonight.”
It was just the two of us in the dark hallway, and the quiet pressed on us with reproof. My body still buzzed with the adrenaline from the fight, but now, my heart raced for an entirely different reason. Standing close was Kade, his golden-blonde hair catching the slight light, his blue eyes burning so intensely, my breath hitched.
“You’re shivering,” he said, in a low, rough voice.
I hadn’t even noticed, myself, until he said it. My hands shook, my skin alive with the memory of the brush with death and the heat of his eyes.
“I’m fine,” I said, lying, my voice barely above a whisper.
Kade moved forward, his eyes scanning my own. “You need not to pretend in front of me, Selene. I can sense it too — the connection, the magnetism. It’s driving me insane.”
A shiver ran through my spine as his words matched my own sentiment. His fingers slid across my arm, and a bolt of heat shot through me. I sucked a breath closer, leaning into his touch, unable to fight the baiting pull of the bond.
“Kade,” I whispered, my voice shaking.
His eyes grew blacker, and he leaned close until his lips hovered above mine. “You’re mine, Selene,” he whispered. “No curse can change that.”
He stepped toward me before I had a chance to respond, his lips catching mine in a deep, forbidden kiss. It felt like time and space fell away, and the only thing left was the warmth of his skin on top of mine and the crackling 'electricity of the bond flowing between us.
I let out a small moan, my hands on his shoulders as he shoved me against the wall, his body holding me in place. His fingers grazed my lips, sending shivers coursing down my spine, before entangling in my hair. The kiss was a desperate, hungry one, as if we were both trying to drown out the chaos of the world with the heat radiating between us.
But just when I felt myself surrendering completely, a sharp voice sliced through the fog.
“Kade!”
Ronan’s voice was the crack of a whip, sharp and demanding. In a flash, I was yanked out of Kade’s arms, his body slamming into the wall on the other side of the dark room. Ronan was standing between us, his fury-filled blue eyes burning, his chest rising and falling with barely restrained rage.
“If you ever touch her again,” Ronan said, his voice low and dangerous, “I will kill you.”
There was silence in the room, the tension so thick it was nearly suffocating. Kade glared at Ronan, jaw tight, but didn’t fight him. The tight bond of the triplets was powerful, but so was the hierarchy of the pack, and Ronan’s authority was absolute.
I stood frozen, my heart racing in my chest, my lips still buzzing from Kade’s kiss. The bond was a living, breathing entity, and it would not be denied. But when I glanced at Ronan, his eyes a combination of fury and something even deeper, something that resembled wanting, I knew this wasn’t finished.
Because the triplets were my mates, and there was no curse or threat that could ever break that. But as the tension in the room reached a fever pitch, I couldn’t help but ask: how far would they go to stake their claim on me? And what would it cost us all in the end?
It felt like standing in a thunderstorm, the air in the hallway charged with anticipation as Ronan cut a wide swathe between Kade and I, his sharp blue eyes caught with a bright, dangerous light. Kade glared at his brother from where he was still pinned against the wall that Ronan had thrown him into, air raked in and out of him in uneven gulps. Their bond — between them and all of us — had become something tangible, like a tropical wind garden between us, twisting and pounding, hurricane-force, ready to break.
“What the f**k is wrong with you, Kade?” Ronan licked his lips, the words a low growl. “You know the risks. You know what’s at stake.”
