Chapter 5: The Choice

228 Words
Footsteps. Shouting. Damien grabbed Evelyn and pulled her under the desk. "Stay quiet." The study door burst open. "Where is she, Damien?" A man's voice. Cold. "Give me the girl and I won't kill you." "Get out of my house, Kyle," Damien growled. Kyle. Damien's brother. Evelyn peeked. Kyle had a gun. Two men behind him. "You ruined my life," Kyle spat. "Because of her. Because of those babies." "They're dead because of YOU!" Damien stood up. Gunshot. Damien grunted and grabbed his shoulder. "NO!" Evelyn screamed and ran to him. Kyle aimed at her next. "You should've died 5 years ago." Evelyn closed her eyes. BANG. But no pain. She opened them. Police. Everywhere. Kyle was on the ground, handcuffed. Damien was bleeding but alive. In her arms. "Ambulance is coming," a police officer said. Damien looked at Evelyn. Blood on his lips. "I’m sorry... for everything." Evelyn held his face. "Don't you dare die on me. Not again." 3 weeks later. Damien was okay. In a cast, but alive. He was sitting in the garden with Evelyn. "I sold the company," Damien said. "Moved everything. We're safe now." Evelyn looked at him. "What now?" Damien took her hand. "Now... we start over. Together. If you'll have me." Evelyn smiled for the first time in years. "I think I can do that." THE END... for now 😉
