CHAPTER 5

1326 Words
SELENE'S POV. While I continued running through the forest, my once long sleek hair, now rough, made me a bit uncomfortable. I could feel my bones cracking up, then shift into my full wolf, and it made me run so fast. “Where are we going to, Mia?” I asked my wolf. Unsure of what our plan would be, now that we were in the middle of the forest. “I don't know, we will have to rely on our instincts and trust the moon Goddess.” I still couldn't figure out how absolute her trust in the moon goddess was. I just couldn't fathom why the moon goddess would put me in this kind of situation. As I thought, I would never know true peace and I would forever be on the run. Just when I thought I had escaped from the forest, a large brown wolf howled towards us. It hit our side and caused us to forcefully hit a tree. Slightly knocked out, we shook our heads and quickly recovered to face the wolf that attacked us. He was a rogue wild wolf. His unpleasant smell was too much and looked so disgusting. We focused on the rogue as it treads in front of us. There was no second thought about what he was going to do, but we kept our stance. My wolf gave a warning growl to the rogue that we were not going to give in so easily. We used our forelegs, and we pushed out towards the rogue. A look of surprise flashed across his pale-looking face. It seemed it occurred to him that he was not our match while the other part of him never wanted to give in. We crashed into it and we were unfazed. The rogue wolf quickly rolled onto its back and landed on the ground with its neck. In no time, we ripped its throat out as it lay dead. We left the scene for another part of the forest. We got to a distance and I transformed back, so I decided to stop, so I could have some rest. Sweat was dripping on my face from the miles I'd run. I was thirsty but couldn't find any place to get water. I looked a little further and spotted the clustering of trees. I moved closer as I walked down the hills, and in no time, I saw the water running clearly down the stream. I would have to spend the night here as I was already exhausted. I contemplated within myself as I sat down to rest, then bent down to take a handful of the water to quench my thirst. I screamed as I heard a sharp crick in my neck bones and soon blackness crept through my vision. I slowly passed out. **** My eyes opened, I tried to sit up, but I was rewarded with pain in my neck. I couldn't scream out as I was still trying to recall what happened before I passed out. I found myself at the back of a hay cart on a moving horse. I coughed and spat some dead grass from my mouth, then I struggled to sit up and look around. Could it be the wild rogues again, I thought to myself. I only observed that, aside from the fact that I was in a hay cart, it was a different road and several miles away from the forest. I turned and looked at my kidnappers, two men who were whispering to each other, steering the horse. I only tried to muffle my screams and I asked, "Where am I?" Hoping to get a response. I sniffed once, and the men smelled like werewolves. Oh, I bellowed. At least they won't hurt me if I don't show off my wolf. "Who are you people, and where are you taking me to?" They both turned and looked at me. One answered me. "We are the ones meant to be asking you that question, young lady." He rebuked "Let me out of this cart!" I blurted with the last breath in me. "We are taking you to our Alpha." The other one shouted. "Oh no! But I haven't done anything wrong, nor did I commit any offence!" I protested, hitting against the side of the hay cart. "Young girl! You were found close to our border and the fact that you are not our kind, means you could be a spy," he added. I fell silent as the cart kept moving and in no time, we got into the borders of their pack. I observed with all quietness as we passed several houses with many werewolves going about their daily activities on the streets. We passed the settlements and moved to a larger house with wide lawns, which I knew from my instinct was the pack house. We stopped at the park house, right in front of the Alpha. The men ventured down from the truck, and they let me down from the truck. They pushed me forward and I staggered. At that point, I fell at the foot of the Alpha. I gently raised my head and beheld the masculine built with a captivating figure and looked down with respect. "She was found loitering at the border of our pack, my Alpha. We guessed she was a spy trying to gain information about our pack's security," one of the men who brought me narrated to the Alpha. I heard the alpha grunt as I stared at the grass close to his feet, unable to meet his gaze. "That's alright," the Alpha said. "Take her to the guard room. I will interrogate her properly in the evening,” he asked one of the enforcers that brought me. One of the men took me to the rear of the pack's house. He kicked open the entryway and a dust storm surged out of the room. I took a look at him, then, at that point, the dusty room, and afterward back to him. The anger in me was compared to none at the humiliation. "Get in," he ordered. "I am not an animal," I said through gritted teeth. "How dare you," he started, then reined in his rage. "Get in now," he yelled. "I am not a spy, and I do not deserve this," I protested. "Your status in this pack is not for you to decide," he retorted. "But for now, get in and stay there while we think of what to do with you," he continued. Later that evening, the Alpha walked into the guard room with some other guy. He looked at me as I sat in the corner of the room. “What is your name, and what brought you the borders to my pack? “I am Selene.” I was startled before I could say anything, unable to answer the whole question. “You don't need to be scared, I won't hurt you.” I didn't understand how I was able to read his mind. I decided to reply in my mind too. “It's fine, just that I am scared." “You don't need to be scared,” he said to me. To my surprise, our minds could link. I could feel the sense of shock in his eyes as his eyebrows furrowed when he looked at me. “Shaman Draven, we need to disband her from her old pack so we can initiate her to our pack. I need to know why our minds got linked so easily when she isn't our kind. “I will do as you said, Alpha Jasper.” Alpha Jasper got close to me to assist me to get to my feet, our gaze locked on each other. My wolf was puffing and screaming inside me. “Mate. Mate” He is my mate, the Alpha is my mate. He stared at my eyes. “Mate,” Alpha Dam uttered.
