Chapter 3

Andrew is behind all this. Alexa kept repeating it in her head. She was a fool to have belittled his capability. If he could r**e an underage, he was capable of murder also.

But now she was trapped, accused of crimes she hadn’t committed. Worst of All. Drugs. She never took them. Yet, when they did drug test on her they found amphetamine and Ketamine. That means only one thing, someone was an insider for him. But who could it be. She thought to herself as she sat in the stark, fluorescent-lit holding area of the prison. She suddenly remembered how scared Sophie had been in the foundation quarters and the confession Sophie made for the recording was on how she was sexually abused and r***d by Andrew. She had promised to reveal the others on the day of the court hearing but now she was dead. She was also locked up in prison. Her only help was Rico. But all the evidences they had all brought together has been damaged including the video, which brought them back to square one. She began to think of the snitch and her mind kept rotating on all the staffs at her workplace. She was utterly devastated. Worst still, she was put in a solitary cell so she couldn’t converse with others. She knew it was Andrew’s doing.

‘’You have a visitor.’’ She heard after what felt like an eternity in the place. Each hour in the cell felt like a lifetime, her hope dwindling as the weight of the charges pressed down on her. Rico has been paying short visits to her but she still felt stuck, not to mention Andrew’s visit yesterday and was allowed to come inside her cell which surprised and scared the hell out of her because he made dangerous s****l advances on her, if not for the police guard that came in time to inform him of the police chief arrival he would have f****d her senseless. On getting to the visitors room, she saw a familiar face but not someone she interacted it on a daily basis. Megan, her employee stood outside the cell, eyes wide with shock and concern

‘’Alexa, I’m so sorry I got here late. I can’t believe this is happening.’’

‘’Megan’’ Alexa said, her voice hoarse.

‘’I’m so glad you are here. You have to believe me-I didn’t do this’’

Megan stepped closer, determination in her eyes. ‘’I believe you. I know you wouldn’t hurt Sophie. You cared for her.’’

‘’Thanks for believing me and coming to check up on me. I am so devastated, I need to prove myself innocent.’’ Alexa said with a grateful smile

‘’I want to help you.’’ Maya said firmly ‘’ Sophie was also my patient and I just found out we are related.’’

Alexa eyes widened ‘’I had no idea. I’m very sorry for the loss.’’

Maya shook her head, her expression resolute.’’ This is not about just you. I want to also know what transpired. I don’t want her death to be for nothing, whoever did this must pay.’’

‘’It’s my ex-husband that planned all this. He was the one that r***d and killed her, he also jeopardized all the evidences available.’’

Megan eyes open wide in disbelief

‘’Time’s Up.’’ The guard ordered

‘’I promise to find every evidence and put him behind bar. I’m with you.’’ Megan said hastily as Alexa is dragged away

After the visitation, Alexa found hope again. Even though she couldn’t afford to trust anyone, a family to the dead seem like a very good ally. With Megan working on the outside, she felt a renewed sense of purpose. She had to hold on for Sophie and herself. She also had to be careful because Andrew had connections here and she couldn’t afford to have another dead body pinned on her

Megan took to the streets, retracing Sophie’s steps and questioning Alexa’s neighbors for any suspicious movement on the morning of Sophie’s death. She didn’t get enough evidences and everything kept resorting to a loose end for her but she didn’t give up. Another visit to meet Alexa, she got some access to be able to get the company’s inflow to take out embezzlement or fraud but she found nothing, until the middle of the night she decided to look ever so carefully. She saw an outflow that wasn’t recorded on the official documentation.

‘’Finally, You have been caught Andrew. Count your days.’’ Megan smirked graciously as her efforts has paid off

The next visiting day, she met Rico

‘’Glad you both have finally met each other, Rico meet Sophie’s cousin I told you about. Megan meet Rico my best friend that will be assisting you in finding evidences.’’ Both exchanges handshakes and smiles and Megan gave Alexa a signal to say something private

‘’don’t worry Rico is trustworthy.’’

‘’Okay if you say so. I have gotten a bait. I have an evidence of an illegal funding done within the foundations transaction.’’

Smile lit up on Alexa’s face and Rico smiled joyfully at the news.

‘’that’s one great news.’’ Rico cheered

‘’Yes. Good job Megan.’’ Alexa said pulling her hands in hers to show the joy she felt within

‘’What about the lawyer.’’ Rico broke the happy moment

‘’We have to get a lawyer that is more about seeking justice than money.’’ Alexa replied sadly. Megan looked from Alexa to Rico in demand for what’s going on.

‘’Apparently the goddamn murderer paid off all the good and top lawyers in New York so they don’t work on her case and anyone that does, he will make sure they never get to see a courtroom again.’’ Rico lamented angrily

‘’That dog needs to be chained.’’ Megan blasted out in anger

‘’Soon. Rico said she knows a capable and worthy lawyer downtown, I pray she is modest enough to help us and not give in to the threats.’’ Alexa hoped

Rico intertwined her hands in Alexa’s as she patted it to give her hope

‘’Don’t worry, she isn’t like the other cheap hungry fools.’’

‘’Time’s up.’’ The guard interrupted and came to take her away and she smiled at her girls that supported her. Her protectors. Even if the world was turning against her, not them. She was happy at herself for having genuine people surrounding her at least and Andrew wouldn’t succeed in breaking her.

Days later were hopeful for her as the lawyer Rico talked to, promised to help her. And she wouldn’t collect a fee till she was able to gain her freedom

She was happy everything was going her way till a letter was delivered to her anonymously that read

‘’There is a mice that want to destroy you, don’t trust everyone. The person appears close from the distant but they aren’t. They are not friends or family relative either, its someone out of the ordinary.’’

This scared the hell out of her and all her happiness disappeared. Who is the mice/
