EPILOGUE She trudged through the woods, carrying the basket full of laundry, the little girl behind her doing her best to keep up. It wasn't far to the lake but, at three, the girl had difficulty making her way around the trees. At first, she hated doing laundry in the lake. It made it seem more a chore than using the machines like she'd been used to. But it didn't take long to become accustomed to the new way of washing clothes. After all, everything had become more of a chore. Even dinner had to be caught or grown. It was just one of the many adjustments that had to be made. “Can I help this time, Mommy?” She chuckled.
