( CHLOE'S POV ) The confession was so mind blowing. I had never thought that I would find my second chance mate just the same night I got rejected. "Who are you?" I interrogated carefully. "My name is Bryan and I am the Alpha of the Midlight pack," He introduced. "Like I said, I am convinced that you are my mate. Will you accept my sincere proposal?" "You are an alpha?" I asked again, still feeling shocked over the incident. "Yeah. I am the Alpha of the Midlight pack," Bryan repeated. "And you are convinced that I am your mate?" I asked again, feeling bewildered by the whole ordeal. "Yes, I am very much convinced. You are the person after my heart, Chloe. I promise to forever love and cherish you," Bryan said convincingly. "It's hard to believe," I muttered audibly without even knowing it. "No. I am serious about this relationship of ours. Please give me a chance," Bryan begged. "Okay, I am ready," I replied after I had calmed down a bit. "Are you ready to be my mate?" Bryan asked with his face betraying nothing but happiness. "Yes, I am ever ready, Bryan," I said with a smile covering my face as well. And that was just that. It all happened so fast. That same night, Bryan took me to his pack and introduced me to some notable people. Quickly, I made new relationships with the people there and I was surely excited. Everyone seemed to be just as excited as I was. Cassia and Jackson were those who left the highest impression on me. I could feel my heart connect with them lovingly. Cassia was Bryan's younger sister and I was really loved up with the girl. She was quite timid but very active. She was a whole chatterbox and she betrayed nothing but good vibes when we met. I knew that we were definitely going to be great pals just from meeting her for the first time. As for Jackson, he was Bryan's Beta and the closest to the family. Jackson had an aura that drew me closer to him. Just from the first sight, I felt myself falling for his masculine appeal charm. I didn't know what love at first sight was but I seemed to have fallen in such love. I didn't know why but I couldn't resist myself from talking to him more and giving him suggestive glances. Luckily for me, Jackson didn't work on my glances. If he had, it would have been a terrible situation as I wouldn't have been able to resist him. As I and Jackson bonded closely on our first time together, I saw Bryan handling me jealously and giving me a close look to check if I was still his. The first night being with the gang felt so good. I was to spend the night in the mansion with everyone else and I would bring my uncle to the mansion the next day so as to set up the date for the mating ceremony rites. That night, I had expected some kinky things but Bryan betrayed my expectation. He specially ordered for all of us to be put in separate rooms for the night. I had actually expected spending the first night with him in bed but as I was to get disappointed, I didn't care and I just spent time sleeping instead. The next day, I got Pete, my uncle to come over to the mansion. Together, we all planned the mating ceremony and fixed a suitable date. The whole thing went very well and I thanked my very good luck for leading me to my second chance mate, Bryan. The day of the mating ceremony was remarkable. I could remember every bit of it. After the rites had been completed, the celebration began in full force. I and Bryan danced in the hallway while others drank wine and shook their body to the rhythm of the music. At last, I felt tired of dancing and so, I went on to join the others who were having a drink together. "How are you all doing, sweeties? I trust you are having the time of your life," I said with a genuine smile on my face. "Trust me Chloe, we are having a good time," Jackson replied as he shook his body to the rhythm of the music faster. "Where is Cassia?" I asked as soon as I found out that Cassia was missing in the gang. Nobody offered me a reply. "What happened? Why aren't you guys talking?" I asked carefully as I realized they were battling with their emotions. "Actually, Cassia is sick," Jackson offered as he looked on unhappily. He had stopped dancing now. "What do you mean? Why is Cassia sick? She was healthy earlier this morning," I said with surprise hovering around my soul. "Well, Cassia has always been sick," Jackson replied. "Tell us more. You are keeping us in the dark, Jackson," Pete said. Actually, Pete was among those of us standing and drinking. "She has an overbearing condition which makes her sick. The condition is as a result of some poison in her body," Jackson said quickly as he didn't want any one to catch what he was saying. "You mean she has poison in her body system?" I asked, quite confused. "Yeah. That's right," Jackson replied before taking a sip of his wine. "Where is she?" I asked simply. "Why do you want to know?" Jackson asked back with his face betraying curiosity. "I want to try to help her. I am a poison doctor," I confessed with my face seriously fixed up. "I don't think it will work. We have had many poison doctors come over to help Cassia but they haven't ever succeeded. More so, even if you were to try it out someday then it shouldn't be today. Today is your mating ceremony and I don't think it's quite proper," Jackson concluded with his face showing seriousness now. "I won't have that, Jackson," I said quickly. "Don't start this, Chloe," Pete began. "I think Jackson is right here. Just hold off and do it tomorrow after your marriage is consummated." "Try to understand me, okay? I can't possibly wait here while Cassia feels pain. I can't be in the condition to help Cassia out and refuse to do that and make her feel pain," I said empathizing the last sentence. "But..." Jackson started before he is interrupted by Pete. "Let her do it, Jackson. Chloe had always been ever stubborn. I wouldn't want a situation right here. Let her do it and let's see the outcome," Pete said quickly. Jackson didn't talk again now. Instead, he moves forward and motions at me to follow him. I didn't follow him and waited for him. Soon, Jackson was out with Cassia in a stretcher. Cassia was looking so timid and pale now. I felt my heart reach out to her to help her out somehow. Everybody in the room was looking at me now as I neared Cassia. I could hear hushes spreading that I wanted to try healing Cassia. With my mind made up, I stretched my hands towards Cassia and invoked my magical power to extract the poison out of her. The poison in her was so strong that I almost couldn't draw it out. I could feel the poison fighting back, trying to magnetize me as well. I now knew the reason why Cassia hadn't found healing all those years. However, I didn't give up. I continued drawing the poison out and as it proved being stubborn more, I felt my conviction and strength multiply. Now, the poison started to draw me closer. I was about to get magnetized as well. Just then, I used all the strength in me and drew the poison out. Just as I achieved this feat, I felt my strength release. I fell down only to be caught halfway by Jackson who held me with my waist in his hands. Jackson left me alone now and I stood up on my own. The whole audience clapped and cheered me for achieving this feat. I hugged Cassia quickly to celebrate the moment. And like that, we continued partying on and on with Cassia in tow. It was therefore a very tired me who left the party venue with Bryan. As we went on to the mansion, we didn't have any conversation. I thought Bryan was probably anticipating our first s*x and that was the reason why he kept mute. I also felt very expectant of that night as well. We both got to the mansion and then had a sumptuous meal. After eating, we retired to the bedroom with my heart beating loudly in anxiousness. Bryan closed the door and then led me to the bed. I already thought I knew what would happen. However, it was nothing like my expectations. "Chloe!" Bryan called. "Yes, love." "Listen carefully," he said. "Okay." "From today onwards," he said as he watched my expression carefully. "...you mustn't have any relationship with anybody apart from me." I watched him surprisingly without talking. "Break off your relationship with Pete, Jackson and Cassia and every other person unless you will have only yourself to blame," Bryan told me with his anger rising. I didn't know why. In fact, I was surprised with what I was hearing. "But why?" I asked carefully. I wasn't meant to ask, it seemed. Just then, I heard a resounding slap from Bryan across my face. I grabbed my cheek and looked at Bryan who was now looking like a little devil. Bryan had just slapped me!
