Chapter 31 Helen stepped back into the curtained space only long enough to say she was calling Cole. I wanted to stop her. The words stayed trapped behind my teeth. My hand was still resting on my stomach as if I could hold the new knowledge in place by force. Pregnant. Six or seven weeks. One night. The doctor had already moved on to practical instructions about rest and fluids when the sound of quick footsteps approached. The curtain was pulled aside harder than necessary. Cole stood there.
