Chapter 2

657 Words
The ice block scraped against Frostwing’s claws, as he started to finish up his carving of Sapphire, who, like himself, carved. Except she carved with driftwood. He wanted to carve like her, getting every detail right, so he had decided to practice until he could get every last detail. This one was his best so far, as it looked more like the shape of her, with the shape of the wings and the clear communicators to the kind look on her face. He still wished that it looked more like her though. He had a lot of work to do on his carving skills. His thoughts automatically shifted to her, and how he was anticipating meeting with her. Quickly, he shot up. He had been so distracted by carving her that he had forgotten about the letter he sent to tell her to meet him. He gently placed the carving on top of his ice plank and sprinted out of his room. Sprinting around a corner, he almost ran straight into Icicle. She looked surprised to see him out of his room. “You’ve actually come out of that room of yours.” She mused, making Frostwing roll his eyes. “What’s the big rush? You are about to die?” Frostwing had to think quickly of a lie before Icicle questioned why he isn't answering her. “Oh, you know,” he laughed convincingly. “Since I’ve been in my room for so long I just thought that it’s time to get some fresh air.” “Well, it sure took you long enough!” Icicle teased. “Do you want me to come with you?” Frostwing pretended to think about it for a second. “I don’t think all the way.” He finally replied. “Maybe you could accompany me to the main doors?” He only put in the last part so she wouldn’t be suspicious. Being the kind soul she was, she nodded her head right away. “Of course I can.” She said. Frostwing smiled in appreciation. That wasn’t fake of him. Together, they started for the front doors. “You know, I’ve been slightly curious about one thing.” Icicle said after a minute of silence. “What have you even been doing in your room?” Frostwing smiled, glad he didn’t have to lie to her about this. “Oh, I’ve just been carving with ice.” He explained. “I like doing things with my claws, so I thought carving would be fun.” Icicle looked puzzled, and Frostwing realized he had been carving for a long time. “You’ve been carving for nearly your entire life.” She stated. “Why would you need to practice carving? You’re already great at it.” “Oh, I was okay at it.” He relied truthfully. “I’m just working on the detailing and stuff like that.” Icicle nodded, understanding him. “That’s quite impressive of you.” She admitted nervously. “Knowing that you could improve on something and practicing it. I’m actually impressed.” Frostwing dipped his head in thanks, quite nervous that she complimented him like that. After what seemed like their longest conversation ever, Frostwing finally pushed open the doors. “I have to thank you for walking with me to the doors.” He said, making Icicle stand taller. “It was a fun time.” Icicle smiled. “Any day.” She replied. “Are you sure that you don’t want me to come with you?” Frostwing nodded instantly. “I am.” he said. “I’m meeting up with a friend. That’s the real reason why I came out here
