It was remarkable how quickly a bunch of strangers could start to feel like a coherent group. Even though I hadn’t really made any friends, there was a different atmosphere when I sat down in the large meeting room again.
From the name badges, I could tell people were no longer sitting with the apprentices from their own conservations and instead, new cliques had formed. It was true for Tamara and me too, considering she was sitting somewhere near the back whereas Mei and I had grabbed a seat up front.
I felt a little self-conscious being up here but something that Felicity said was still hanging around in my thoughts. I certainly used to be more confident and unabashed in trying to get a leg up. Somewhere along the way, I’d stopped fighting for it.
