Daniel’s POV
The horn was still echoing when my body gave up.
One moment, I was standing between Arthur and Damon, trying to keep them from tearing each other apart.
The next, I was in Arthur's embrace but the room tilted.
And the walls seemed to move farther away.
My ears rang loudly, drowning out every other sound.
“Fire in the western wing!” someone shouted from outside.
Western wing. That's the Queen's quarters but I felt more frightened that he is still coming for me.
My heart tried to beat faster, but my body felt too heavy.
Arthur turned toward the door to leave.
I tried to speak.
“I—”
But the word never finished.
The air disappeared from my lungs.
Darkness rushed in from the corners of my vision.
