Chapter 7: Gray

1045 Words
As soon as I stepped foot on the Carter boy's property, my wolf was up and alert. “Mate is here” he growls “I can smell her”. My heart rate immediately spiked. My wolf instantly fighting me for control, a quick glance in the rear view mirror tells me my eyes are switching back and forth from their steal gray color to the glowing gold color of my alpha wolf. I parked my truck and took my time getting out of the car. I needed to calm my wolf because I know the minute he sees her he is going to want to sink our teeth into her neck and claim her. He’s tired of waiting. By the time I make it to the door and knock, my wolf has calmed down, by calm I mean he won’t jump on her and mate and mark her on the spot. It only takes a minute or two before the door opens and Tristan answers, inviting me in. Stepping into their home I’m on high alert, my eyes already roaming around looking for my mate. The door shuts behind me when I spot her in the living room with Liz. “Mate” me and my wolf growl out as soon as we see her. I’m already moving towards her before my mind catches up and I see the expression on her face. It doesn't completely register until I try to touch her, she sides steps and avoids my touch. “I’m sorry but, I don’t think I’m your mate. You must be mistaken” she states voice void of emotion. “Jackson or Tristan, would you mind taking me home? I forgot I had some paperwork to finish.” “No,” a little bit of my Alpha command slipping out, “I’m positive you’re my mate. In fact, I’ve known you were my mate for a very long time, Maddison.” I growl out before I can stop myself. I can feel the change in the air the moment that the words are out of my mouth. I’ve made a mistake, but I don’t care, how dare she acts like I’m not her mate. My wolf tries to reach out to hers and get shut down immediately. A growl slips out of her, “Don’t you ever try to contact her again”, she all but screams at me. Tristan is the first to break out of the haze of shock. “Our little sister is your mate, and you knew this for how long now? What about you and Celeste? You’ve been with Celeste since we were kids and now you knew that my little sister was your mate? Is that why you came here tonight? To tell us that you’ve been betraying the mate bond to my sister?” I freeze, trying to come up with an answer and control my wolf. He doesn’t like the disrespect they are showing to me. Tristan reaches for his jacket and the keys, “Maddie, you got your stuff? I’ll take you home. Jackson take care of our mate, Alpha, please leave our house.” He storms out the door, and my mate grabs her stuff and rushes past me. I can smell her strawberry and cream scent, and my wolf goes crazy. “Don’t let her run again.” And once again I act before I think. I ran after her, grabbed her before she could make it to her brother's car, slinging her over my shoulder and I ran. I ran at full speed towards the packhouse, through the forest that surrounds their property. My boots crunching down on the fallen tree branches, my free hand swatting away at the low hanging branches. Through my battle with the dense vegetation and my flailing mate, I somehow have the sense to mindlink my beta to make sure the floor where my suite is cleared and that I have a clear path to my floor. Maddison was throwing a fit, slapping and scratching at my back, legs flailing. A quick slap on her bottom gets me growl from her that is so strong it vibrates my chest. “Mate strong” my wolf states proudly, practically purring at the thought. I can feel his happiness but it’s short lived when I feel the sting of claws across my back. Oh, as soon as we get the chance she’ll be put over my knee for that. My wolf purrs again at the thought. He’s turning into a kitten at this point, purring at the thought of his mate. We soon approached the packhouse. At the speed I was running I wasn’t surprised that we had approached the packhouse in a matter of minutes. As soon as I made contact with the door, I felt rather than saw her brother approach us. “Alpha, give me back my sister please,” Tristan said cautiously. I ignored him, my wolf fully on the surface now. I continued to walk into the packhouse up to my floor while my mate is still fighting me to get down. When we reach my room, I throw her on the bed, and I know she’s fuming but my wolf and I don’t care. My wolf is staring at her, fully on the surface for her to see. I’m taking a backseat to this conversation. “Mate” he growls out. She just fumes and growls out a “No” while shaking her head. “Mate” he growls out more sternly. “You are mate, I can smell you, I felt it” he speaks to her. “I am not your mate. I have no mate,” she snaps at me. My wolf sees red, and before I can force him to stop, he’s already on her, teeth into her neck. He’s marking her, claiming his mate. By the time he’s removed himself from her neck satisfied and purring while relinquishing control to me, she’s already lost consciousness from the shock. So, I do the only thing I can do, I tuck her into the bed. Mindlink my gamma to stay by her and try to go downstairs and fix the mess my wolf has created.
