Chapter 6

July 13 “Okay.” The word was out of my mouth before I could even really think about it, then suddenly I was nervous again. What the hell had I just agreed to? With a tentative smile the Alpha stepped away from me and pulled his shirt over his head, I vaguely heard him speak but quite honestly, I think a tornado could have swept through the building and I wouldn’t have noticed. My wolf was yelping like a s*x starved horny teenager, telling me to do all manner of dirty things to the man and his many, many muscles, one particular suggestion had even my cheeks flaming and I was used to her inappropriate chatter. “What was that thought?” “Sorry?” I asked, my eyes snapping up to see an amused expression on his handsome face. “What was that thought, the one the turned your cheeks pink?” He asked and my face flamed, bright red, no way was I sharing that, nuh huh I would take the punishment. “Nothing.” I mumbled and he laughed, actually laughed, his head thrown back his muscles rippling, and of course my mouth watered, damn he was gorgeous to look at. ‘Never mind look at, I want to touch him, lick him. Come on Amara please, just a taste.” My wolfs need was so insistent that I actually almost moved towards him as my face flamed red again. “I won’t let it drop. I told you, anything pertaining to you I want to know.” He stated a smile still on his lips and I wondered if he was teasing me as I swallowed, the blush still firmly in place. I cleared my throat and prayed that this wouldn’t wipe the smile from his face. “My wolf has an over active imagination.” I answered on a whisper but there was no doubt he would have heard it. His smile widened, as he shook his head. “So does mine.” He stated before dropping his trousers and I had to force my eyes away from his bottom half, much to the protest of my wolf. ‘Just one look, just a little one, then lick him.’ I groaned in frustration at her words. ‘Absolutely not, pull yourself together.’ I uttered in my head, trying to control the urge to give in to the desire we both felt. The sound of breaking bones drew my attention back to where the Alpha was once standing, now, in his place was just about the most magnificent black beast I had ever seen. With what had to be the best control I had ever seen in a shifter, the wolf slowly made his way across the room careful not to make any sudden movements, until he stopped and sat in front of me, sniffing the air around him he whined lightly and without any thought for self-preservation my hand found its way into the silky fur on top of his head. A small whine echoed around the room as he rubbed his snout against the palm of my hand before nudging my hand and arm out of the way and leaning forward to sniff at the cut along my side. With one last glance at me the wolf tucked its head and licked along the side of my ribs. Instantly and without any warning the tingles I had started getting used to exploded throughout my body, so strong, so all-consuming that I would have begged for it to stop, or continue, or to be touched, something, anything, I just needed more. A groan escaped me, a noise I wasn’t sure I could have made under any other circumstances. Another lick and fireworks were going off behind my closed eyelids, and suddenly all of those suggestions my wolf had been pushing on me didn’t seem so unrealistic, licking touching sucking biting anything, I just wanted my hands on his flesh and his on mine, something, anything to relieve this ache, to calm the explosions that were coursing through me. The sound of snapping bones barely registered before hands were on my waist and I was being guided back towards the bed. “Sit down for a minute, it will subside soon.” His husky voice, his hands on my skin and I was ready to beg. I felt myself fall slightly onto the soft mattress. “Oh my god.” I murmured, how was this real, this insatiable need, it was all consuming, I had wanted the man before this but wow, now it was something else entirely. I opened my eyes to see stormy blue ones looking right at me. “I need to kiss you Amara, I need to taste you. Tell me yes, tell me it’s okay.” He stated, his voice huskier than I had ever heard it and I nodded my head, because there was no way I could do otherwise. “Yes.” The word had barely left my lips when his crashed against mine, the tingles that had started to subside rekindled everywhere he touched me and I groaned against him, my lips parting on a gasp that he took advantage of, his tongue skimmed my bottom lip, his fingers gripped my naked hips, caressing the sensitive skin, and what was likely only a minute felt like a lifetime before he pulled away, panting for air, and watching me with an expression I couldn’t decipher. “You weren’t joking.” I finally managed to say, the words slipping out of lips that still tingled from his touch, a touch I wanted more than anything to experience again. His answering smile was soothing, relaxing in a way I wasn’t sure I had ever felt from another person before. “You okay?” He asked and I glanced down at my side to see that the skin had almost completely closed, and the bruise had faded significantly. “Yeah. Thank you.” I mumbled, that had probably been one of the nicest things anyone had ever done for me. “You’re welcome. Now while I would much rather spend all day in here with you, I do have to get some work done and Alpha Westley is expecting us for lunch.” “Of course. I should get back to work.” I stated with a nod, feeling all of a sudden like this was all surreal, like a dream I hadn’t actually lived and that I was about to wake up at any moment. “It won’t be for too long, hopefully, just a few days and then you will never have to work as a slave again.” He stated and while that thought was incredible, I couldn’t help but think about the other girls here, what would be their fate? The kitchen was bustling when I finally made my way back to the ground floor, everyone was getting ready to serve lunch, running around to ensure that the platters were perfectly presented. “Amara.” Mrs H called, waving me over to the kitchen table where she had been sat with one of the other girls. “Are you okay? Kyle told me you were requested by the visiting Alpha.” She stated with a worried glance, and I slumped on the seat at the table. I filled her in on my late-night misadventure the night before, leaving out the part about the fated mates, I wasn’t sure why, I just didn’t want to tell people. What if he changed his mind? “And you’re sure you are okay?” She asked and I nodded. “I’m fine Mrs H, honestly. I feel a lot better today, everything’s starting to heal up nicely and the Alpha didn’t touch me.” I stated. Thankful that not everyone seemed to be able to tell lies from the truth. “Good, well, go and shower and change, you’re covered in dirt.” With a nod and a smile I left to the communal bathroom while the girls carried on with the lunch prep. A quick shower with a good scrub and clean clothes and I suddenly felt like I was back to new, there were still bruises littering my body but they weren’t causing me any problems. So, with a spring in my step, I headed back into the kitchen to see Hannah was the only occupant. “There’s a very large build-up of waste in the larder.” She informed with a smile. And I nodded my appreciation, that even while I had been out of commission, she had still been stacking tubs of food. The mountain of tubs filled two whole bags to the top and I carried them outside with shaky arms. I followed my normal path, eager to hand them over to the pack members. I hated that I didn’t meet them yesterday, and I couldn’t help but wonder if people had gone hungry because of it. The coast would surely be clear, given everyone should be at lunch, but still I was wary. Everything seemed different around here lately, or maybe just my perception of everything was different. Nothing made sense to me any more, I had spent my whole life believing that every pack operated like this, truly beholden to the Alpha, and the fact that, that might not actually be the case was throwing me for a loop. With the coast clear I squeezed through the gap in the hedge and made my way along the edge of the gardens out of sight and into the forest beyond, this was such a familiar route to me now that I barely had to think about it, but I kept my eyes peeled and my wolf was on alert as always, just in case. Marcus was the man stood waiting today. It was another late drop off and after yesterdays no show I was unsurprised to see him looking disheartened then surprised as his eyes landed on me, but his face quickly showed outrage then worry as he took in the bruises that still marked my face. “Oh, goddess Amara, what did they do to you?” his voice cracked as he stepped close, not paying any attention to the bags of food I held. “I’m sorry about yesterday, Marcus, I was a bit out of it.” I stated ignoring his question. “Don’t worry about that, what about you? Are you okay?” “Yeah.” I waved off his concern. “I’m fine, it looks worse than it is.” And that really was the truth after Alpha Williams healed my side this morning. “Is everyone else okay?” He asked his eyes darting everywhere, and while I knew that he truly did care if everyone was okay, his biggest concern was for his daughter. “Everyone’s okay. I saw Grace less than an hour ago, she was throwing bits of carrot at Mia and dodging a spoonful of salad dressing that was thrown back at her.” I stated with a smile. “No one’s hurt her. She’s as happy as she can be and Mrs H looks out for her, you know that.” I stated, Mrs H looked out for us all, as best she could at least. I watched as the man visibly relaxed, I knew he had to be thinking the worst since I didn’t show up yesterday. “There are visitors at the pack house?” He half asked half stated. “There are, the Alpha and other leaders from a different pack. They seem different.” I informed with a furrowed brow. “Kind.” I finished, hoping that I wasn’t wrong in that assessment. “And you’re truly okay?” He asked again and I laughed lightly. “I’m fine Marcus, I promise. Just a few bruises. Nothing I can’t handle.” “Well, okay then.” He smiled back and handed over the empty tubs from the last drop off. “There’s a lot more than normal, no one threw out the leftovers while I was out of it yesterday so there’s around sixty tubs in here.” I stated handing over the full bags. “You know one of these days Amara, someone’s going to come along and pay back your kindness.” He stated with a smile before picking up the bags and heading off, but I was still lost on his words, maybe, just maybe they already had.
