Ethan's eyes darkened instantly. "Passing through?" He repeated the words slowly, then took a step forward. His tall frame blocked the sunlight in front of me. "Lena, do you really think I'd believe that?" I smiled, swung myself back onto the horse, and lightly tugged the reins as if preparing to leave. "Whether you believe it or not isn't my problem." "Stop." His voice cracked through the air like a whip. Almost instinctively, he reached for my reins. But I reacted faster. Leaning back slightly in the saddle, I guided the horse half a step backward and avoided his hand with ease. His arm froze in midair. For a brief moment, genuine surprise flashed across his face. "Mr. Scott," I said lazily while stroking the horse's mane, "Don't embarrass yourself. It's beneath your station."
