Carpe Diem

Lily lays face down in her bed sheets, trying desperately to ignore the jumping and screaming women that are threatening her sanity.    "Ahhh! He's so cute!" Sophia coos as she links arms with Mara and dances in circles on Lily's bed.    "Did you see how big his arms were?" Mara questions. She is ridiculously happy at this opportunity to tease her baby sister.  "Forget his arms," Sophia scoffed. "Did you see his hands? His fingers were so big and long. Could imagine what a man with hands like that could do to you?"  Mara stops jumping momentarily and her face scrunches up in thought. Without her dark eye make-up she almost looks sweet. Her short hair makes her look young but those light green eyes are still fierce.  “Oh I can think of a few things but it’s not anything I could ever repeat!”   Sophia and Mara resume jumping and twirling. Barely missing Lily’s poor fingers and toes and other important bits.   Both of them singing “Trent and Lily, sitting in a tree. K-I-S-S-I-N-G!”   "Oh and such big feet! You know what they say about feet Mara.” “No Sophia. What do they say bout men’s feet?” Mara asks.    “Ummm. I dunno. The bigger the feet….the bigger the….shoes!” Mara and Sophia descend into ridiculous laughter and Lily grabs a nearby pillow to shove on top of her head.   Sophia collapses in an oozy feminine puddle on top of Lily. Mara comes next attacking Lily's sides trying to get her to squeal. The singing resumes.   “Trent and Lily, sitting in a tree. F-U-C-K-I”-   "Just stop it!" Lily screams. Her sisters freeze mid-tickle. Their chests constricting as they see tears on their baby sister's face and the pain in her eyes.    Mara sits down and pulls Sophia down with her. Now that the bed isn’t shaking, she can see her shoulders shudder. She can hear the sobs. "Lily…” Mara tries gently. Wanting to apologize for her crass words.   "No. Don't. Nothing you say will make this any better. I hate you both right now. A lot. But I'm doing this because I love you so much. Not for me. I would rather take my chances than hurt this man. But for you, I'm going to do it." Lily rubs her puffy eyes and looks at her sisters. Almost sorry for her words.    "We're sorry Lily. It was just our first time meeting him in person. We didn't think he would be so…" Sophia was at a loss for words.   "So what. Alpha male? What were you expecting?" Lily asked. “If you think meeting him is overwhelming, try having him all over you. He has turned everything upside down for me that’s why I’m struggling with this so badly.”   "I've never met one Lily. How was I supposed to know? This was a first for all of us. Right Mara?"   Mara shifts around on the bed uncomfortably. She suddenly feels terrible for teasing so much. The situation was very serious. It felt nice to just act normal again. If just for a little while. But she could feel the growing darkness pushing against her wards. Prodding carefully, searching for weakness. Time was growing short.  At times like this, Mara just wanted to go back to her garden.    "Right. But we have things to do. Lily I'm sorry. I can see how intense he is and why this has been so hard for you. If there was any other way..." Mara spoke softly.  "Save it. I don't want to hear it anymore. I know I don't have a choice. Just let’s go over how I'm going to do this." Lily lies back in bed and pretends to listen to her sister’s plan.   “Ok. Well it’s simple now. He trusts you. You just have to spend the night with him. He said he was inviting you to a wedding. It’s the perfect scenario. Nothing suspicious. He’s even going to expect it.” Mara states.   “Nah. It’s not that simple. She has to perform the protection spell during the act. So he has to be under the influence of the love spell at the time so he won’t question what she’s doing. If he suspects anything, she won’t have a chance. He can easily overpower her.” Sophia argues.   “But it will be easy to get him alone. She just has to make sure he keeps it in his pants until the right time. He does seem a little over eager. But Lily can just act shy and hold him off until they are alone for a while.” Mara counters.   “That’s not the worst part though. We don’t know how well this love spell will work on the Alpha Male. He’s strong and might be able to break through. She should time him down first before starting. Where would she get all the stuff? Carry it around in a fanny pack?”   “Sophia don’t be stupid. Of course she’ll bring him back here and-.” Mara starts to say.   “No way am I listening to my sister give her cherry to some Roman God, like some teenaged perv. Are you serious?” Sophia spits.   “Well, do you have a better idea? Everything has to be perfect or the spell won’t be strong enough. This spell is meant to protect her from all forms of magic.  The light and the dark. But it requires her blood and his. We can’t be too careful with this.” Mara complains.   They argue back and forth and go over scenarios and spells. Lily focuses on not crying. She thinks about blue eyes and gentle kisses. She thinks of long nights and lazy days in bed with her lover. Of living and loving in peace.   Lily is startled by Mara wiping a tear from her freckled cheek.  "Baby, you're not listening. Tell me why you're crying." Mara cradles Lily's head in her lap and plays with her soft brown curls.    "I just hate that I can't have a future with Trent. That I have to trick him and then never see him again. I didn't think I would care but my feelings for him are so intense. I'm terrified that no one will ever be able to make me feel this way again."    Mara and Sophia share a look. Worried about Lily's heart and what she might be saying.    "You know what Lily, you might be right." Sophia says boldly. Lily looks turns to her in shock. "If this is your only f*****g chance at happiness, then take it. If these next few days are going to be as good as it gets, why cry about it? Make the best memories ever. Make it count."   Lily bolts upright. "That's the best thing I've heard all day. You're right." Lily jumps off the bed and grabs her cell phone.    "What are you doing?" Mara asks. A little worried by her sudden burst of energy.    "Tut. Tut. Tut." Lily is staring intently on her phone and waving a hand in Mara's face.    "Are you shushing me?" Mara croaks.    "Mara leave her alone. I think she might be texting Trent." Sophia grins widely. Proud of her Lily.   "Lily what are you doing? We don't have our plan yet." Mara complains.   "Seizing the f*****g day." Lily beams at her sister. Controlling what she can. Praying for the rest of it.
